María del Socorro Rodela (Jordán), affectionately known as Mom, Grandma Sukie, and Nina passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 1, 2026.. She was born February 23, 1927 in El Paso, TX to Juan and María del Pilar Jordán. A lifelong resident of El Paso, she was known for her kindness, generosity, great sense of humor, resilience, and folklore remedies. Her faith was absolute and unwavering, always praying for all her family and giving blessings to anyone who was leaving town. She raised her children on her own, teaching by example that love, faith, commitment, hard work and endurance could overcome any obstacle. All were welcomed in her home where she shared her delicious homemade meals with anyone who visited.
Her life was centered around her greatest joy, which were her children, grandchildren, great-grandson, family and friends. Some of her joyful times were traveling, tending to her beautiful garden, listening to music, dancing and reminiscing with friends. Whenever you visited her you either found her in the kitchen or tending to her garden. She shared many plants with family and friends and to this day those plants are still thriving and flourishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents Juan Jordán and María del Pilar Jordán and her siblings, Juan, Luis, and Irene Jordán. She is survived by her daughter Martha Leticia Briones and her son Miguel Javier Rodela (wife Christine); her grandchildren whom she loved Michael, Abraham, Cody, Larry, Bianca, Christopher, Andrew, and Mathew; and her only great-grandson Alejandro, who brought her immense happiness in her final chapter.
She will be dearly missed and will always be in the hearts and memories of her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
