Martha Elena Vera passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born July 10, 1958, in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, and made her home in El Paso, Texas, where she met her husband, Mario Vera, whom she loved and built a life with for 41 years of marriage.
Martha was a ray of sunshine; she had a way of entering a space and making it warmer with her presence. Everywhere she went, people were naturally drawn to her boisterous nature, her smile, her genuine warmth, and her palpable faith in God. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; but above all things, she was a woman who genuinely loved God and her family. Her life was defined by her unwavering faith, endless strength, and extraordinary love.
A hard-working woman throughout her life, Martha worked in many different jobs to provide a home full of love for her children – oftentimes putting their needs before her own. Her family was a fundamental part of who she was and she wanted to make sure they always knew they were loved.
Martha’s love for God was just as profound. She was an example of a life dedicated to serving God with her words and actions — preaching, speaking at women’s events, volunteering at church, praying over people, and providing to those in need. Faith was not just a word, it was a way of life for her. Even in difficult moments, her life was an example of God’s power, strength, and goodness.
Later in life she and her husband became ordained ministers and pastored their own congregation. She remained the same warm, honest, and genuine woman both in and out of the pulpit. She was a true example for women in leadership, firmly and graciously demonstrating the belief that God can call anyone to service.
Alongside her ministry, Martha was deeply creative and wrote throughout her life. Her notebooks, filled with poetry, reflections, and Bible studies, filled entire shelves. These pages now hold invaluable insight into the woman she was. She sewed beautiful clothes for her children when they were young, and later turned her talent into lovely quilts, pillowcases, and handbags. More recently, she discovered a passion for jewelry-making and beading, applying the same passion and enthusiasm as she did with any new project. She was a lifelong student — whether it was cosmetology school, theological studies, sewing, writing, or any other creative endeavor. She was passionate in every learning experience, giving it her all and dedicating hours until she mastered the craft. That was part of her essence: a woman who was curious, talented, and full of life.
In her final years, she enjoyed a quieter rhythm at home, enjoying the company of her children and grandchildren, exploring new ways to keep her hands and mind creating, and spending time with her two beloved dogs, Honey and Heidi. They were simple but significant moments, enjoying the life she had built.
Martha is survived by her loving husband, Mario Vera; her children, Ashley Vera, Jennifer Vera, Areli Paoli and her husband Hiram Paoli; and her son, Omar Lopez and his wife Susana Lopez; her grandchildren Azucena Montoya, Omar Lopez Jr., Ailyn Lopez, Hiram Paoli III, and Geovanna Paoli; and her siblings. She was predeceased by one grandson, Ricardo Lopez.
Those who knew Martha will remember her joy, her strength, her creativity, her love for God, and the way she dedicated herself completely to the things and people she loved. Her family will never forget the privilege of being loved by her.
Her light continues to shine through everyone whose life she touched.
She will be forever loved and forever missed.
A private viewing and service will be held for immediate family only.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903, US, on August 28, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
