It’s been 3 years since you’ve been gone. We still miss you my friend. You come up often in our conversations at work. I hope you know how much you were loved and appreciated. Please continue to look out for all your friends that miss you dearly.

The news of Mat’s passing broke my heart. We never kept in touch after the service. Our lives separated by so much distance, pass like the wind. Goody was my best friend in the navy, we were both cooks. We used to climb cliffs together. My lady at the time ( Theresa, who since had passed as well) happened to be best friends with his lady at the time (Priscilla), the four of us had too many goods times to count. He was the kindest man that I’ve ever encountered, a man without enemies. I’ve spoken of him often over the years and will continue to do so. My deepest sorrow for his family and friends. Hey dad!! I wish you were here to meet your first grandbaby. Her name is Ayla Jane. She’s the best. She makes so many faces that you used to make lol! I can’t wait to tell her all about you. Matt was our little brother #9 out of 10 siblings. He was a energetic, fun loving kid, mischievous to say the least but always had a smile on his face.                                                                    After  reading the comments & tribute’s about Matt from his family, friends, co-worker’s, and acquaintances you could see that Matt had a heart of gold . He was a loyal friend & a great brother. He was one of a kind. His contagious smile would make everyone smile.     We always enjoyed his trips home. It was never enough time to spend  with him & his girls, but he did his best to see everyone & we were always sad to see them go.                                                              At Christmas time we would send him some treats from home and tell him not to open till Christmas but as soon as it arrived it was opened and eaten, so we knew he enjoyed it.       Matt was a kind hearted soul & was always willing to lend a helping hand, a warm hug and a shoulder when needed. Matt had a special gift for making everyone feel like they mattered.    He could start a conversation with anyone about anything but most of all  loved talking & bragging about his two beautiful daughters Kara  and Alina. You meant the world to him.                                We will never forget you Matt, you will be with us forever in our hearts and our memories.   We are all going to miss you. We LOVE you Matt, now and forever. And as Matt would always say on football Sundays…GO. BILLS ! ❤️

At one point in time Matt was my hero.  He was my best friend.  
I was 18 years old when I met Matt.  I met him on the USS Dixon in the US Navy.  I went mess cranking and as you may or may not know in the Military there’s a bunch of hurry up and wait… and while I was waiting, I heard people talking about "Goody got it".  "Goody took care of it",  "Goody this and Goody that…"  I was like who is this Goody guy??  And in struts in this short man, everyone looked up to... Everybody loved Goody!

 Matt was a total people person.  He made friends so easily.  He accepted you just the way you are.  Just being Matt’s friend got me an in.  People liked me because Matt liked me.   He had a gift; he was a gift!  He had a gift of connecting with people, all kinds of people, and he was a friend to all.  He took the wounded, the throwbacks, the rejects, and the unloved, and made us feel special.  I loved working with Matt, in the Navy and at the EPC in the kitchen.  He always had my back and looked out for me.  

 Matt excelled everywhere he went.  He had a good work ethic.   He also was sweet, kind, and thoughtful.   Together we created these two beautiful, strong, resilient, magical girls that will continue to go on and honor his name by healing and overcoming and surviving everything that that life throws at us.

 Matt was Matt.  He had to have things his way, and so did I, so that didn’t work out very well.  Saying goodbye to Matt this way... It wasn’t supposed to end like this... But here we are on Matt’s terms, saying our goodbyes AFTER instead of before.  I love you Matty.  You will forever be missed, never forgotten.  Fair winds and following seas, until we meet again.   May you finally rest in peace.  <3



I wish I could be there to  say goodbye to Uncle Matt and  see family again. Uncle Matt was always the best to John and I. Some of my fondest childhood memories are John, Kara, Alina and I hanging out at their place on Daisy street. It was where Uncle Matt patiently showed me how to ride a bike all those years ago. Memories like those are why he will always be apart of my life and where I come from.

Hi Friend!! I miss you so much. Work has not been the same since you left us. I am just so grateful I was able to to talk to you one last time. You were telling me about how your beloved daughters were doing. You were always so proud of them.  My condolences to your beautiful girls and family. I hope they know how loved you were. Thank you for being a great friend and co-worker to so many of us.  You will be profoundly missed. Till we meet again.

Matt was a one-of-a-kind person that lived a truly remarkable life. I feel lucky I got to know him; nobody could tell a story better than Matt. I will always cherish the times I spent with him. the love he gave, the way he cared for people… all those good things will live on, I will truly miss you Matty.

Matt was one of my shipmates on board the
USS Dixon AS-37 in San Diego, Ca. In the late 80’s.  He was a good friend. One of the most kindest people that I knew. He always had a smile on his face. You are now with the angels my Salior friend!

Matty was my favorite regular at the shack. From Mcrae he followed us to Viscount and lit both places up. He will be forever missed by not only me, but the rest of the Shack Girls. Sending love to his beautiful family during this difficult time. 

This photo was taken at my retirement in December, 2017.  This is just one of many wonderful memories I will cherish forever. Matt and I go way back working in the kitchen at INS and  had become more than co-workers or colleagues; we became friends which felt like family.  I can go on and on about what a good person he was, a God fearing man, family man, but I’m sure the  world  knows that.  He was one of the smartest, kindest,  most helpful  man I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling my friend, my brother. Rest in Peace Matt; we love you.

How I will miss your phone calls when we would talk about everything under the sun. You remind me so much of your big brother, Jim, my darling husband. Both of you loved big, and kept your hurts and worries inside, so as to not burden others. You adored your lovely daughters, Kara and Alina, and always thought family was the most important thing. You are free from those earthly problems, and rejoicing with your family in Heaven. We know you are still with us, though we miss your smiling face. Until we are all together again, you are in our hearts forever.

We will miss a kind caring  soul. Great company in times of saddness and in times of fun . Deep conversations that let you in to his inner self even for a moment.  Blessed to call him my friend,partner in cime and mostly my brother .Fly high and free
