Michael Herbert Manhart, 76 passed away on October 1, 2018 in El Paso, TX. He had recently lost his beloved wife of 44 years, Peggy on Aug. 26, 2018.
Mike was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He traveled with his family as a military dependent living abroad in France for 1 year, then Colorado, Virginia, and Hawaii. He graduated high school from Punahou School in Honolulu in 1960. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii in 1964. Through his participation in ROTC he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mike entered active duty at Ft. Shafter in Honolulu, Hawaii and then was stationed in Texas, New Mexico, Maryland, overseas in Turkey and did 2 combat tours in Vietnam. Upon completion of his tours he was sent stateside to Hawaii where he met his wife Peggy who was a nurse in the U.S. Army. They were married in Chicago, Ill in 1972.
Mike retired from active duty in El Paso, Texas and then began his 13 year career with Chevron Refinery. He rose through the operator ranks and served over 12 years as an emergency response team member on the Chevron fire brigade. In retirement Mike enjoyed reading, acquiring Japanese/samurai collectibles and sunbathing.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Ashton Herbert Manhart and Helen Manhart (Savage), his younger sister Gail Fisher (Manhart) and his beloved wife Margaret Therese Manhart (Keough).
Mike is survived by his children daughter Christine (Christopher), son Patrick (Adrienne), and grandchildren Aidan, Jaxon, Olivia, and Ashtyn.
Visitation: October 8, 2018 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Martin Funeral Home East. Rosary at 6:00pm. Mass: October 9, 2018 at 9:30am St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1700 George Dieter El Paso TX, 79936.
