

Socorro Olga Soto Kent, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in El Paso, Texas on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She was born on March 23, 1926, in Alberthill, California to Jesus Soto and Guadalupe Alarcon Soto. Olga lived in California until the age of seven when her family moved to Mexico where she attended school. At the age of 15, she began working at various clothing manufacturing companies in El Paso. During WWII she worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at Radioplane Munitions Factory in California, making parachutes for our troops. In 1958 she earned her GED and became an employee of Safeway until 1960 when she became owner of the Eagle Café. She was the proud owner of the restaurant for 25 years. In retirement she dedicated herself to her home, her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children and their spouses Sandra and David Arrieta, Elva Garcia and Frederick Doerr, Richard and Margarita Alvarado, Marta Kind, John and Sherry Kent, Tom Kent and Marshall Kent. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren (Neil, Holly, Yvette, Jacqueline, Christian, Isabel, William, Michael, Gina, Sheri, Ashley and Diego) and 16 great-grandchildren. Olga was preceded in death by her husband, JW (Cowboy) Kent. Services will be held at 7 p.m., on Thursday, December 11, at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 Carolina Drive, El Paso, Texas 598-3332. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service. There will be no interment.
