She has crossed her last t, and dotted her last i, and now joins the pantheon of writers in the sky.
Of course, neither of us really believed there is a pantheon of writers in the sky, no more, alas, than there is a great host of musicians in the sky.
Still, as a writer she joins the millenniums of those who labored and toiled to find exactly the right words. In her retirement she wrote her stories, a great number of poems, and the story of Sadie Orchard. In three different El Paso writing groups, she helped other seniors compose their stories.
She was a long term member and past president of the El Paso Writers League. She served as the league historian, and her writing won multiple awards in their contests.
She was also a many year member of the Texas Mountain Trail Writers in Alpine/Ft. Davis, Texas.
In her professional years, she taught elementary school in Arkansas, East Texas, Las Cruces, Carlsbad, and a final 18 years at Anthony, New Mexico. Her Future Problem Solving team placed first in state competition and advanced to the finals in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Her study and publication of the life of Sadie Orchard, a large sized character in the early history of Sierra County, New Mexico, gained her many lasting friends in the communities of Hillsboro, Kingston, Chloride, and Truth or Consequences.
She is survived by her husband, Bill: sister Mary Jo Warren: son Fred and wife Tawnya: daughter Annette and husband Philip: grandchildren Beth, Carl, Brittany, Courtney, Whitney, Emily, Hayden, Keely, Drew: eight great grandchildren: numerous nephews and nieces: and her much loved dog, Pax.
Her name will remain as long as printed words retain their form. Her memory will remain as long as those who knew her live.
She was a positive force for all who knew her, and the lives of all who knew her will be diminished to some degree by her loss.
Special thanks are due her very long term doctors, Vipool Patel and G.E. Martin. Her longevity is due to their care over many years.
It is requested that any memorials to her be addressed to the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, or the animal shelter of your choice.
Memorial Service will be Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home- Doniphan.
