Paula Miles Scott Lynch slipped away from this earth on September 15th, 2025. Hers was an extraordinary life filled with the love of God, the love of her husbands and her family, the love of friends, and the love of music—always the music!
Paula was born on September 30, 1931, to Leo and Mary Miles, parents she always cherished and held dear to her heart. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and never failed to praise the people and culture of her city—she certainly prided herself on being from the “Sun City”. She married John David Scott in 1952, and after his death in 1981, married Michael J. Lynch in 1984. She is survived by her children: Maribeth (Glen Zinn), Marsha (Scott Duncan), Leo (Lori Jacobs), Laura, Claudia (Art Gorman), and Paula (Anthony Azar). In addition, she is survived by her “Lynch boys”: Bill (Anne Bowers), Mick (Susan Saunders), and James (Liz Russell), 16 grandchildren and soon to be 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Mary Miles, her husbands John David Scott and Michael Lynch, her brothers William, M.J., and Walsh, her sister Marie Anne Galentin, her angel daughter Mary Grace and her grandson Cuyler Duncan.
Paula was an undeniably beautiful and gracious woman. She was blessed with a rare and incredible voice—one that she shared with so many through the years. Recitals and concerts, weddings and funerals, operas and follies and musicals—she loved them all! She especially enjoyed entertaining with the Good Time Singers of the Junior League, and she had a decades long heart-felt passion for the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir. For her children, her singing was the soundtrack of their lives. Lullabies and birthday songs, Christmas carols around the piano, songs of joy and songs of sorrow.
Paula considered her children to be the greatest success of her life. She taught them the most important lessons—to be kind, to be compassionate, to love with a fierce but tender heart, to be humble and giving. She lived the lessons each day—the examples she set inspired generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her legacy will certainly continue on, and beautiful memories will come to mind as wisps of songs float across the air.
The family would like to the staff and wonderful caregivers of Lights Angels and Caring Senior Services, and the personnel of Tender Care Hospice for the compassionate care of their mother. They made sure her days were filled with the music she loved and treated her with all the dignity and kindness she showed to others in her entire life. Special thanks to Lorena and Aydee of Light Angels, Sarah, Heidy, Daisy, and Raquel of CSS, nurses Linda Black and Willie Olmstead, and her physical therapist Kelvin Green, who never failed to get a smile even on the hardest of days. And to the most extraordinary women who cared for her in her final months and days: Sawsan, Miriam, and Laura. For your never ending love and tender care we will be forever grateful.
A private family burial for Paula was held on September 21st. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday, November 7th at 2:00 P.M.
Paula lived an exceptional and exemplary life. Our hearts are content knowing that she is finally at peace and is surrounded by all those who have been waiting for her. Without a doubt she is singing…
“Life and love go on—let the music play!”
