Thank you Diego for making my time in Oregon memorable and fun. We got to go on several hikes and experience Oregon in a different way. Thank you for the great memories.

We are so heartbroken by your passing, Diego. Yet, very thankful that we (Gabriel, Valerie, and I) got to spend your last visit to El Paso with you. You were so excited to take us to the Escape Room. It was great to see you and Gabriel work together in finding the clues, while Valerie and I found all of the tokens. You were a little disappointed that we didn't get the jackpot, but we did escape on time. You went to Valerie's soccer game to watch her play, and we went to one of the slowest, "artistic" movies we'd ever seen.  Then of course, we went to your  favorite steakhouse around here, Cattlemans, and you had the biggest steak on the menu and enjoyed every last bite. May your soul forever rest in peace with the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, little brother. 

One characteristic that I recall is your ability to amaze me. When we were kids you were like this Nintendo wizard that could beat anyone and any game. I was envious and jealous as I fumbled with my fingers trying to keep pace. You’d laugh as if I were mere amusement to your digital dominant world and I’d try harder and harder to dethrone you and never succeeding. We got older and you stayed true to who you were, never flinching in character to who you were unafraid and embracing who you are. Unfortunately like most of us I became someone I wasn’t in a desperate attempt of acceptance not knowing that who I was… was good enough. You never faulted in that regard and I admire you for your strength. The last time we were together we shared a lot of the same opinions and ideals of life and society, it was a breath of fresh air. I had hoped to expand on some of the issues but time has a way of slipping through our fingers and only leaving traces of regret. I had talked to you briefly recently yet much like life it didn’t feel like enough time. We failed to make the most of our time together in this world…. I hope we can in the next. I love you primo 

Memory eternal Diego. I cannot believe that you are gone. You were so full of life! 

May God in his great mercy forgive you every wrong and receive you with open arms. 

I will miss our conversations about all things engineering experiments. Memory eternal dear friend. 

The night before what would now be known as the day of his passing, Diego was in my dream. I think he hugged me though I'm not sure I hugged back, he was sad, and a flood came in all around me. Moments later, the water receded, and he was gone. When I learned that he had actually passed, I immediately thought back to the dream and the timing of it.
Diego liked the cold and would go out of his apartment with bare feet. He liked showing what he was working on. He would also talk about particular books, movies and shows he'd read or seen, and unfortunately I did not have the attention span to capture all of it, but I'd let him talk anyway. He liked his meat and showing pictures of said meat. He liked cooking and was keeping a recipe book. Honestly his cat Hunter was his favourite - no one could replace Hunter. I've sampled watching a number of TV/anime series with him. I accompanied staying up with him all night maybe a couple times and I know he appreciated that. When he changed work shifts, sometimes when I'd come on campus we'd eat lunch together and watch anime. We never did finish Assassination Classroom, though. He loved strawberry flavour and eggnog (separately, though I wonder if he'd like the combination). He liked trying to learn languages, in particular Japanese, Russian and Greek that I'm aware of. I also got to explore a lot of Oregon with him and others. 
You could say I was arguably his closest friend while in Oregon. I know he cared about me enough to want to help out when he'd be able to. He essentially in his own way helped me and my family settle in the US, and for that, my family is forever grateful. We send our condolences to Diego's family and loved ones, and wish Diego well as he is laid to rest.
N.B. I have a number of photos of/with him (and his food and cat…)… possibly not all of them glamourous. if you are one of Diego's family members and would like to see the photos privately, please let me know.

My deepest condolences to the entire family: Jesus, console those who are grieving the loss of their loved one. Let them be comforted in the remembrance of Your promises.  Give to those who mourn, peace, in the midst of their tears. You are the Resurrection and the Life. Know and believe this! Amen

Placido Diego Núñez was born in Alpine Texas on May 13th, 1983. He is the beloved son of Placido (Chano) Núñez and Alicia Ibanez Núñez . His older brother is Gabriel Ibanez Núñez  from El Paso  and his sister is Anissa Núñez  Quezada who resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had two nephews and one great nephew. He also had two step nephews and one step neice. Diego was an engineer for Intel in Portland Oregon and had recently moved to San Antonio Texas.
From mom:
My precious Diego, my precious angel in heaven. Words cannot express the pain I feel in my heart as I give you back to our Creator. You were a special gift given to me by God because the doctor said you would not survive the pregnancy. You once told me that no child should be told that they were an accident, I told you that you were the best accident that could have happened to us. You were so loving, so helpful and so caring. You sacrificed yourself for others happiness. I truly enjoyed your crazy sense of humor. I had too,  by watching South Park and other animated shows with you. You were definitely one of a kind. When you were born you were afraid of many things  due to my almost being run over when pregnant with you as I walked at the park in Van Horn. Once over that fear,  when you thought you were a ninja turtle, you were not afraid of anything. You lived your life by going to the Air Force, getting married for 13 years,  traveling, learning to cook Asian food and being with family. You touched many lives. You were very brave fighting the dreaded Covid which you lost the battle too, since you didn’t stand a chance. You are now in our Savior’s arms with no more scars. I will love you always and my heart has a hole in it until we see each other again. God bless you in the name of the father and and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.

Diego, I am going to miss you so much,even though I hadn't seen you in a while, but I never forgotten how you would come to my house so often and hang out with Matthew and give me a hard time especially about cooking for for both of you! I love you and I'll see you one day in heaven! I'm so sorry that we didn't get to spend more time with you💔

I miss you Diego.  Our hearts ache with your absence.  As my nephew, I am truly grateful for the close friendship that you and Jennifer had. You were like two peas in a pod, sharing life experiences since childhood. You even kept the letters she wrote to you when you were in boot camp. I know that your feelings for her were mutual.  You understood one another and appreciated the time spent  together very much.  Without a doubt, you would’ve been a positive, fun loving and nurturing influence in Koen’s life.  I love you Diego. 

I miss you so much it is extremely painful. I find myself pondering about all the conversations that we've had, all the arguments and misunderstandings, the missed opportunities. Truth be told that you were a better person than I am in a whole lot of ways. Perfect? I'd say no but no one is perfect. I just mean that you surpass my ability to love in some ways. My life will always be void without you in it. Just the thought of you not being in this world with me seems at times to be unbearable. I miss your presence I miss your voice. Thank you for thinking of me higher than I'll ever deserve. Thank you for new experiences such as archery, Korean bbq, Mt Hood, hiking on a whim, anime cartoons, movies with subtitles, a "Breaking Bad" tour, the Comic Cons experiences, the Asian culture, sushi on a conveyor belt, the joys of playing virtual games, always learning and teaching. You were in the middle of reading "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" to me and trying to make me learn latin. I wish that you understood that you were truly loved by those who actually took the time to know you. you were truly unique in so many charming beautiful ways

You were a strange but very likeable person. You were also an awesome roommate and friend. Life has a nice way of letting you meet cool people like you Diego. Thank you for the escape room and cabin memories you made and shared with us. Forever in our hearts ❤️
