On the evening of Friday June 6, 2025, at the age of 41, Ray's life was tragically cut short in a car accident. He was born in El Paso Tx. on Thursday, May 17, 1984, to Olga Ramos de Martinez and Raymundo Carlos Martinez. He grew up mainly in the Westside of town and attended Coronado High School, where he briefly played with the football team due to an ankle injury.
Ray had always been known to be a hardworking man. He worked at Vintage Car Wash for 14 years, where he tirelessly worked his way up to manager. His current place of employment was at the Walmart on Paseo Del Norte, where he mainly worked in the warehouse with CAPS 2.
Ray was also known to be quite the jokester among family, friends, and peers at work. He had a way with words since he was a little boy and had a knack for making everyone laugh, or mad, depending on his mood. Many who knew him, knew him by different names: Carlos, Carlitos, Lero, Hulk Hogan, or Ray Ray, or just simply Ray. Just to name a few.
He had a passion for sports, lifting weights, and working out, and would run and do cardio workouts around the neighborhood. But football and basketball he was the most passionate about. His favorite teams being the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers. He would attend UTEP games when possible and was excited to see Notre Dame play at the Sun Bowl in 2023. He followed these sports at both college and professional levels and knew all the plays and followed all of the players.
Ray enjoyed listening to music from oldies, classic rock, heavy and thrash metal, to old school rap from his teenage years.
He leaves behind two beautiful daughters Isabella and Sofia, his mother Olga, his countless siblings Jorge, Marina, Rosario, Flor, Magge, Juan, Olga, Carmen, and Silvia, and many nieces and nephews, and his other half, Rachel.
He is preceded in death by his father Raymundo Carlos Martinez, a Vietnam War veteran with the United States Marine Corps.
Ray marched to the beat of his own drum, was straightforward, and didn't mince words. He will be greatly missed by so many people, so many friends, and so many loved ones. We all know how he made such a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will live on in our hearts, in our memories, and will never be forgotten. There will never be another like him.
We love you Ray. May you rest in God's eternal peace.
