

RICARDO “KOOKIE” VEGA, 65 went home to the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2016. A lifelong resident of El Paso, and a proud citizen of the Raider Nation. He grew up in La Chihuahuita in Segundo Barrio and graduated in 1969 as an Oso Orgulloso from La Bowie. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Intrepid. He was a member of the Cougars Softball family. He worked 40 years as a Carman at the Union Pacific Railroad. He loved doing crossword puzzles, listening to oldies, watching sports especially his Yankees and playing “un viente” at Speaking Rock. He was notoriously known for his charismatic, funny personality, smooth dance moves and homemade popcorn. His greatest pride was his family as he would always say “La familia siempre tiene que estar unida”. Kookie’s legacy lives on through his wife of 44 years, Norma “Pifas” Vega, his daughters, Connie “Connievala” Vega, Cynthia “La Flakita” Chavez, and Sofia “La Brain” Vega, his son-in-law Michael Chavez, his grandchildren, Mia and Michael Chavez, his carnalas, Juanita Rojas, Carmen Aguirre, Josefina Rivera, Elsa Vega, Irma Cisneros, Rebecca Vega and his carnal Edmundo Vega. He will be reunited with his jefitos Rodolfo and Maria Vega and his carnal Victor Vega. Visitation: 5-9pm November 9th, rosary: 7pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home- East. Mass: November 10th, 1pm: Saint Paul church. Interment: Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed!
