Richard “Richy” Spector came into this world on June 11th, 1960. He was the youngest child of Dolores and Irwin Spector of El Paso, TX. From the beginning everyone knew Richy was a little different. He didn’t speak until he was almost six years old and Dolores shared that she longed to hear his first words. Well, be careful what you wish for. Richy did learn to speak and once he started he never stopped (to the joy and consternation of his entire family).
Richy’s appetite for life was nearly as big as his appetite for food. He loved to make up stories about lives he’d never live and places he’d never go. He was a businessman, astronaut, veterinarian, filmmaker, lawyer, president, and a man about town. He had many girlfriends who somehow were all named Maria. He could find the beauty in any woman and was not afraid to share his appreciation for them. He was an animal lover and his family has many memories of him happily playing with beloved pets. He never was able to learn to read and write, but somehow managed to fix everyone’s electronics.
Richy loved music, dancing and “ Days of our Lives”. He threw many dance parties in his room and shared his love of video games with the youngest members of the family. Halloween was just not Halloween without a visit to his haunted house.
The most remarkable thing about Richy’s life was his relationship with his mother Dolores. Dolores taught Richy and all of us what unconditional love looks like. It was a hard relationship at times especially as his health deteriorated, but Dolores’ devotion to him was unwavering and brought a deep meaning to her life.
Richy’s presence at family gatherings will be felt, but especially heard. Richy showed us how to play, enjoy the small things, and how to have patience. Richy is survived by his mother Dolores Calderon Spector, brothers Abraham (Elvira) Spector, Carlos (Sandra) Spector, nephews Yasha, Gudi and Benjamin Spector, many extended family members from all over the world, and his favorite and only niece Alejandra Spector.
May he rest in peace and join his beloved father Irwin Spector in death. Here’s hoping that heaven is full of beautiful women in bikinis.
Viewing and celebration of life will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. on April 20th. Burial will be on the 21st of April at Mount Carmel Cemetery at 9:30 a.m
