Bob “Ruhler” Ruhl, 81, was called home by Our Heavenly Father, September 6, 2024. Bob was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Charles Kenneth Ruhl and Dorothy DeWolfe Ruhl who both preceded him in death. His family moved to El Paso when he was six. He attended Crockett Elementary and graduated from Austin High School in 1961. He also attended Texas Western College and UTEP, graduating with a BBA in accounting in January, 1968. He passed his CPA exam in July, 1973.
He was a member of the East El Paso Lions Club for nine years. He went to work for many CPA firms in El Paso, often partnering with his good friend and mentor Nick Binyon. In addition, he worked as an accountant for R. E Welch and Martin Tire Company in El Paso. In 2004, he and his wife Kay retired and moved to Ruidoso where he worked again as a CPA for his good friend Gary Thompson.
Bob enjoyed taking contrarian positions in friendly discussions and earned the title of “trouble” from his good friends. He always wanted everyone to be happy and was a great listener. He enjoyed watching sports with his family and placed the occasional wager. He loved traveling by car with his wife and enjoyed stopping at casinos on the way.
Bob is survived by his beautiful, loving wife, Kay, who was also his high school sweetheart. Bob and Kay recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Kay was also his friend and “rock.” He is also survived by his sons Kenneth and Patrick, daughter Suzy (Lee), former daughter-in-law Teri, grandchildren Caiman, Everett, Kaylee, Zachary, and great-grandkids Maddox, Jolie, and Rue. His grandkids called him “Hutch.”
