

Rose de la Torre de Peinado, age 80, was called to be with her Lord Thursday, October 4, 2012. She passed away peacefully at the hospital with family at her side following complications from cancer. She was born on December 20, 1931 in El Paso, Texas.
Rose was the daughter of Aurelio and Esperanza Lazo de la Torre. She was a graduate of El Paso High School. She married Arnold Peinado on July 12, 1954 at St. Mathew’s chapel at Fort Bliss during Arnold’s first year in the Army. They lived their first year of marriage in Alexandria, Virginia while Arnold was stationed at Fort Belvoir. She worked for the American Institute of Architects national office in Washington, D.C. After his service in the Army, Rose and Arnold moved to the San Francisco area where they had their first child Arnie. Two years later they moved to El Paso where their children, Steve and Melissa, were born.
Rose worked many years as a medical secretary for Dr. Bornstein, a pathologist, and afterward for a neurosurgeon, Dr. W.J. Nelson, both located in El Paso. She later worked for A.V.C. Development Corp. as an executive assistant.
Throughout her life Rose was involved in numerous civic and volunteer activities in the El Paso area. She was the past president of the axillary of the El Paso Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. For many years she was a docent at the El Paso Museum of Art and was also on the Board of the El Paso County Historical Society. She was a member of the Symphony Guild, the El Paso Women’s Club and the Order of Granaderos de Galvez. Rose was an excellent bridge player and loved playing bridge and other card games with family and numerous groups of friends.
Rose had been an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for over 25 years. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, belonged to the Rebecca Circle, co-chaired both the Guild Christmas Bazaar and the Byways and Means Committee and served as president of the Guild from 2007-2009. Sister Julia of Queen of Peace recently noted that “Rose was extremely dedicated to the Church, the Guild and her responsibilities, was very easy to get along with and was always smiling in the discharge of her duties. She is an angel of God amongst us.”
Rose was a loving, supportive and wise mother who believed that family and friends were of the utmost importance. She made friends easily and kept many long dear friendships over the years. She was kind hearted and generous to all her loved ones and friends. Rose was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining and preparing wonderful meals of excellent taste. She made some of the best enchiladas, chile rellenos and salsa that anyone has ever had. She was very active, always on the go and is now taking a well-deserved rest. Rose’s family thanks her doctors, family, friends and Church for all their interest in and care of Rose.
Rose is survived by her husband Arnold, her three children Arnie, Steve and Melissa and six grandchildren Nicole, Stevie, Chip, Sam, Justin and Betsy and one great grandchild Elias and another great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her sisters Mary and Rita and her brothers Aurelio Jr. and Enrique.
A viewing will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Rosary at 7:00 p.m.) at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere, El Paso, Texas 79912. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park 4848 Alps Dr. , entrance on Dyer St.
