Socorro C. O. Perez

Socorro Cristina O. Perez, 82, passed away August 23, 2014. She was born July 24, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of El Paso. She graduated from El Paso Tech, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from The University of Texas at El Paso. She was a retired school teacher from the Ysleta Independent School District. After retirement she taught adult ESL classes at Centro Mujer de la Esperanza. She was an associate member of the School Sisters of St. Francis, a member of the Friends of the Judge Marquez Library where she served as secretary, a member of the Red Hatters, and a member at Santa Lucia Catholic Church where she taught classes in Catechism. Socorro is survived by her husband Roberto, sons Roberto L. (Carmen), Roger (Janette), Roland (Ruth), Sonia Marquez (Enrique), Ralph (Lori). Her beloved grandchildren: Christopher Perez; Melissa Perez; Michael Marquez; Matthew Marquez; Daniel Marquez; Amber Perez;Kaitlin Perez; Ethan Perez; Justin Lundy, and great grandson Luke Perez. She leaves behind her brothers and sisters: Manuel Ortiz (Virginia); Maria Elena Stewart (Rudolfo); Jesus Ortiz, Jr.; and Ricardo Ortiz; plus nephews and nieces. Pallbearers are Roberto L. Perez, Roger Perez, Roland Perez, Sonia Marquez, Ralph Perez, and Christopher Perez. Socorro requested that all family and friends wear non-mourning attire. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, August 29, 2014 at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Santa Lucia Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery.
