She was born on December 21, 1960, in Alamogordo, NM to Jim Ostic Sr. and Frances “Runi” Gonzales Ostic. Sonia grew up in Tularosa before moving with her family to Santa Cruz, California, where she began her schooling. After about ten years, they returned home to Tularosa, where she graduated from Tularosa High School. She shared her childhood with her siblings Cynthia, Jim, and Mark, building lifelong bonds through family traditions, adventures, and plenty of laughter. Sonia met the love of her life, Ricky Vigil, while they were in school, thanks to a little matchmaking from their dear friend Lisa. The two quickly discovered a shared love for music, a passion that became part of their life together for the next 45 years. From school days to raising their family, music was a constant thread in their story. She was known for her welcoming heart and vibrant spirit. Sonia loved a good game of bingo, cheering on the Tularosa Wildcats, and striking up conversations with anyone she met — she truly never met a stranger. Her home was always open, a place where friends, family, and newcomers alike could find a warm meal, laughter, and the comfort of being cared for.
Sonia is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Ricky Vigil of La Luz; daughters Yvonne Vigil of Tularosa and Anna Vigil of La Luz; grandchildren Savannah Bartz (Colton) of Alamogordo; Darian Vigil and Ava Weigel of La Luz; and Isabella and Gracie Bartz of Tularosa; siblings Cynthia Maes (Bobby) of Tularosa; Jim Ostic Jr.(Deborah) of Tularosa; and Mark Ostic (Lana) of Mescalero; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren.
