Steve M. Hyde born 2/17/1948 in Brady TX to Spurgeon and Annie Fay Hyde. The family moved to El Paso when Steve was very young. He died peacefully on March 2, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family after a 2 year illness.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta , his son Kirk Hyde ( Teresa) of Chandler AZ, stepsons, Anthony Wagner [ Nevada} of Colorado City TX, Cliff Harris of El Paso, niece Bobbie Jo Archut of Houston, grandchildren Zachary Hyde ( Chelsea) Lauren Dunlap ( Dylan ) of Chandler, AZ, Dakota Harris of El Paso, TX, Bailey Spague, Taylor Wagner of Colorado City TX. Great grandchildren Abbagail, Beau, Miles and two on the way all of Chandler AZ Kasydi and Luke of Colorado City, TX. Because of Loretta’s work with rescuing dogs, he became even more of an animal lover and is survived by his loving dogs too numerous to mention.
Steve was an outstanding athlete in baseball, football and track at Andress High School before becoming a Science teacher, and Football/ Baseball Coach at Parkland for a number of years. He then began a 30 year career with the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad.
He loved fishing and some of his most favorite trips were with his son Kirk and grandson Zach. He also played golf with his buddies and would always have stories to tell about both.
Pallbearers will be his lifelong friends from grade school , Burt Blacksher, Grant Thomas, Nick Vera, Tom Mueller, Zach Thomas and Doug Leslie.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, March 9 , 2026 at 10:30 am, Restlawn Cemetery on Dyer. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
