Thomas J. Murphy

Thomas J. Murphy was born on February 17, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Daniel and Julia Murphy. He passed away peacefully on January 24, 2015 at the age of 85 in his home in El Paso, Texas surrounded by his wife and children. Beloved husband of Lucille (nee Hamilton); devoted father to Pat (Jen), Daniel, Mary (Mark) Stevens, Therese, Margaret (Mike), Sean (Jennifer), and Eileen (Drew) Liedeker; dear brother of the late Daniel (Rita) Murphy and Mary (Bill) Trautwein. He was the proud grandfather of Karen and Jennifer Murphy; Meg, Katie and Joseph Stevens; Erin and Ryan Liedeker; and doting great-grandfather to Ellie. Tom was an Electrical Engineering graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and had a long career in manufacturing management which brought him to El Paso in 1973. He volunteered for many years with the RCIA at St Raphael Church and as a member of the St Raphael School Board. He enjoyed many passions in life: from basketball, football, golf and fishing to a life-long devotion to the Church and more recently joining his buddies for weekly breakfasts at Village Inn. He was known for his deep singing voice, his resemblance to Walter Matthau, his sense of humor, and the game he created with his grandkids of battling over the recliner. He took great pride in his children, his Irish heritage, his Chicago roots and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 5-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm at F.D.A Martin East Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11am at St Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar. Burial to follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragosa.
