

He was born on April 28, 1935 in Elizabethtown to the late Frank and Mary Hagan Lanz.
Charles was part of the first graduating class of Etown Catholic School, a milestone that reflected both the beginnings of his education and his lifelong connection to the Elizabethtown community. He was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church.
In his professional life, Charles was part owner of Joplin & Lanz Company. He also built a respected career as a realtor and owner of Lanz Realty, earning trust through dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Charles was a devoted husband and father. He gave generously of his time and leadership to the community. He served as Director of the Hardin County food bank and was President of JCs Rotary Club and Lions Club. He was a member of the first airport board in Hardin County and also served as a city councilman. Charles was a staple in his community.
Outside of his many commitments, Charles found joy in simple pleasures. He enjoyed bridge playing and watching sports, especially Notre Dame and Louisville. He also enjoyed watching horse racing.
Charles leaves behind strength, kindness, and love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped and the love he gave so freely.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jane Miller Lanz; a son, John Charles Lanz; a grandson, Matt Freeman; and his brothers, Robert and Jimmy Lanz.
Survivors include two children, Leslie (Mike) Freeman and Steve (Leslie) Lanz; one sister, Karen Pearl; a daughter-in-law, Janet Lanz; a sister-in-law, Charlene Lanz; seven grandchildren, Heather (Drake) Sullivan, David Lanz, Chase Lanz, Sidney (Cory) Bell, Josh (Tracy) Freeman, Jordan (Kacie) Freeman and Ryan (Jeannette) Freeman; a granddaughter-in-law, Jillian Freeman; and sixteen great grandchildren, Grace, Claire, Harriet and Charlotte Sullivan, Luna, Bentley, Elliott, Izayah, Bodhi, Zac, Rachel, Ella, and Troy Freeman and Stevie Lea, Quincy, and Haidyn Bell.
