Henry Clay McAlister

Henry was born on June 9, 1940 in the community of Camargo, in Lincoln County Tennessee.

He served in the United States Army for six years and graduated from Harding College. Henry moved his family in 1974 to Elizabethtown to oversee the startup of Phelps Dodge. The two-year assignment became a lifetime residency for the McAlister’s, as they loved the community to raise their family. Henry also held a real estate license for several years. He worked as vice president of Continental Air Filter for a few years before starting his own businesses. He had several Curtis Mathes stores in the 1980s and 90s, video stores, and the Hardin County Roller Rink.

Henry was a member of the Elizabethtown Church of Christ where he served in various capacities as deacon, elder, and any other service he could do for the church. He was instrumental in preaching at other area congregations whenever needed.

He will be remembered for his long, faithful marriage, raising three children, and his long hard work for the Lord’s church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Russell and Evelyn Jobe McAlister; two brothers, Russell Worth and Ray McAlister; and three sisters, Fana Robertson, Dorothy Holman, and Louise Davidson.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wilma Barber McAlister; two sons, Russell “Rusty” McAlister (Leanne) and Eric McAlister (Michelle); one daughter, Monica Bartelt (Craig); two sisters, Linda Fisher and Imogene McAnulty; ten grandchildren, Jeremiah McAlister, Jacob Bartelt, Jessica Anderson, Brittany Bartelt, Austin McAlister, Brooke McVay, Connor McAlister, Josh Bartelt, Henry McAlister, and Haylee McAlister; seven great- grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at 1 PM on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Elizabethtown Church of Christ with John Board officiating.

Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation begins on Thursday at 10 AM and continues until the time of service at the church.
