He was a native of Seymour, Texas and was drafted in the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. Joe traveled to many locations within the United States and in Europe, then retiring in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He met his wife, Nancy C. Howell while they were both serving in the U.S. Army. She passed in 2010 due to cancer as well.
His is survived by his son, Michael K. Howell of Suffolk, Virginia.
Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date.
