Joseph "Gene" Eugene Edwards

Gene was born on December 8, 1936, in Yeaman, KY to the late B.D. and Elizabeth Cartwright Edwards. He played basketball and graduated from Clarkson High School in 1956. He was everyone’s favorite Coca-Cola man (Service Manager) for over 50 years. Gene loved fishing, playing the guitar, avid UK basketball fan, collecting fishing lures, knives, and Coca-Cola memorabilia. He loved his family and multitude of friends. He was a great dad and was loved so much by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Edwards; one sister, Norma Dean Plourde; and a son-in-law, David Simpson.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances “Kitty” Fentress Edwards of Cecilia; four children, Kenny E. Edwards of Cecilia, Sabrina (Brent) Coffman of Cecilia, Missy Simpson of Cecilia, and Jennifer (Joe) Vertrees of Upton; five grandchildren, Branda Horrocks, Aaron Simpson, Claire (Doug) Horn, Andrew Lawson, and Jordan (Ethan) White; six great-grandchildren, Kelly Robertson, Jr., Caroline Horn , Sam Horn, Everett Horn, Noah White and Luke White; his siblings, Raymond (Sandy) Edwards, Richard “Duke” (Mickey) Edwards, Carolyn (Bob) Hatfield, and Gary (Ella) Edwards; and many nephews and nieces.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brother John Smith officiating.

Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and continue after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
