

She lived and worked with her husband of 51 years, Glenn, on their farm in Summit. Julia attended Summit #2 in grade school and attended Lynnvale High School, graduating in 1945 as valedictorian of her class. She later attended Western Kentucky State College, graduating in 1964 with a B.S. then later receiving a M.A. and Rank 1. She taught 30 years with her first year beginning at the one-room school house at Summit #1. This is the same school now located in Freeman Lake Park. Later she taught at Stephensburg Elementary and Lynnvale Elementary. Her love for teaching remained all her life.
Julia was a lifetime member of Summit Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. Her faith and love of God guided the way she lived.
Some of her favorite activities included; portraying Amelia Bedelia at various schools and social functions; 25 years with the Elizabethtown Historic Walking Tour where she played the role of Aunt Beck Hill; former regent of the local DAR Chapter; member of Retired Teachers Association; and a Kentucky Colonel. She received many other accolades throughout her amazing lifetime.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Dollie Nugent; her husband of 51 years, Glenn; a son, Jim; two sisters, Velma Sarver and Edith Dupin; and a brother, Lonnie Nugent.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Lasley; grandchildren, Tim (Patty) Lasley, Jamie (Tausha) Richardson, and Gena (Kyle) Baker. She has 8 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Included are several beloved nieces and nephews as well as many other friends and neighbors.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Summit Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church.
