Dorothy was born to Major Anthony Brannan and Olive Irene Salle on July 27, 1935, in Denver, Colorado, where she resided for seventy of her eighty years. The Colorado Rocky Mountains were her favorite place of enjoyment, and she was well known for having a green thumb, with her gardens always full of beautiful blooms. She was a lifelong homemaker and the loving mother of two daughters. Her involvement in church was also an important part of her life, and at one time, she and her husband ran a mission for those battling with drug addictions. She was very active in sharing her faith with all ages when she resided in Denver, ranging from Sunday School classes to women’s prison ministries. She was a member of Elk Rapids Bible Church.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband George Lester Hayes who first noticed her when she was thirteen, and then married her four years later on April 23, 1953. George and Dorothy celebrated over sixty-three years together. Dorothy was the mother of two surviving daughters, Kathy Albee, and Peggy (Gary) Gladfelter of Kewadin, Michigan. She was the grandmother of Jonathan and Joshua Albee, Joanna (Rob) Willett, and Jason Albee of the Normal/Bloomington area; Alicia (Todd) Key, Candace (Joshua) Tomei, and Micah Gladfelter of the Traverse City area. She also had six great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Ellen (Bill) Taylor of Alma, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene, and brother, Tom O’Cconnell.
