Robin and family, our deepest condolences to you all.  Alex was a good friend and colleague while we were in Germany.   News of his passing is heartbreaking.  We often talk of all of our good times together and cherish those memories.   Prayers for all of you, may he forever rest in peace.

I just found out today about Alex’s passing, and I wanted to say a few things, since I haven’t seen him since we graduated in 1981 from HS....Alex was a good friend,  he was always upbeat and just a great person to hang out with.  I don’t think I ever met a person with his intellect, he was definitely the “ brains” of our small group of friends!  We lost track after graduation, which is not unusual...we all go on our separate journeys in life...I did have a chance to catch up on the FB site a few years ago, but I had some medical issues I had to address and dropped off the social network scene this last year until a few days ago and now I find out my good friend has passed and is in heaven ...I wish I could have communicated with him while he was dealing with his medical issue, for I too am suffering from the exact same dreadful disease. I am happy to hear that he was a man of faith, that is so important. My condolences to his wife and children, may my friend Alex Rest In Peace in Heaven..your old friend Mike

I enjoyed all of those nights at your home when we would gather together for LifeGroups and you would always have a unique twist on common food that we would all enjoy immensely. And, you NEVER forgot to have a cold Diet Coke or two on hand for me. I especially loved your understanding of the word “pop” and your disdain for the word “soda.” I always enjoyed your tough theological questions, your hunger for deep theological truths, and your willingness to trust them by faith in Christ. I enjoyed our laughs in our common love for the Skit Guys. I always admired your steadfast loyalty to your Steelers in the midst of Ravens nation. I enjoyed your constantly bugging me about my love for Mac computers and you always offering a rebuilt windows system for a good price. I deeply appreciated your love for the annual live Christmas tree in your home and being willing to be the guy lighting the candles at the top of the tree while Robin and Tasha were always reminding you to be safe and don’t fall in the tree.

My Facebook messenger app is full of our private conversations between us because you preferred that method instead of texting like every other human being in the world. I was always full of anticipation most weekends when you would give me fresh ideas on how to crack back on Gregg Yarian. You were always quite the teammate in that endeavor. Sir, you deeply impacted my life and I am jealous that you made it home before me. Now the saying that we always shared is true, “If I don’t see you here, I will see you there!” I love you Alex. Thanks for your imprint upon my life. I'll see you soon!!

The following was written by Freedom Church's former pastor Tim Houston to Alex -- Part 1 (shared by Robin so this can be placed in the Memory Book for years to come):

My heart does not break for you because I know that you have obtained your eternal reward. You are not lost, you are Home with our Savior. In God’s perfect timing he called you home. My heart does hurt deeply today for your family knowing that they may not fully understand the providence of our God and the majesty of your death. Only time will reveal how God is going to make Romans 8:28 a reality out of your home going. Until we fully understand, we will keep the faith and trust God even more in these times as we do not fully understand the hand of our maker.

Sir, you deeply impacted my life in so many ways, especially in the way that you made a very conscious decision to follow Christ. I will never forget the day that you decided to trust Jesus with the rest of your story and follow him. I knew that you would make him famous and you did. You were a model of our God’s love to your family, especially Robin and the children. You were a model to me on how to love and be patient with my children. You loved me and my family deeply and always went out of your way to make sure that we knew that you were praying for us and that you were ALWAYS available to help in any way feasible.

We love you Alex!  I think the first time I really got to know you was when we were taking the "Truth" series together.  You always asked the questions that the rest of us were thinking.  Your participation in that series made a big impact on the understanding I got of the message in that series.  I also loved the time we spent working the doors together at Freedom Eldersburg.  We chatted a lot about family, work, and life.  You had a way of making me feel comfortable and a part of the Freedom family.  And then there's the jokes.....I loved your sense of humor and looked forward to all the puns and jokes you posted.  I'd yell to Michael, "Hey listen to what Alex just said"!   And your cooking!  Wow!  Michael, Barb, Bob, and I had the privilege of having a prime rib dinner prepared by you.  That was a wonderful night of good food and company.  Alex, you have so many wonderful and different sides that we remember about you....and while we are on this earth you will always be in our hearts.  Yes we miss you but we are so looking forward to seeing you again.  We know that you and your family are blessed and truly members of God's wonderful kingdom.   God has you by His side now and His light is shining brightly upon you.  We love you Alex!

Wow, what more can be said about Alex. Just know that in the short time I have been privileged to know him was a blessing and a gift to me from God. Alex always brought a smile to my heart. We shared a sense of humor, we "Got!" each other. I will always remember the day I wore a "Marvin the Martian" t-shirt and Alex just went nuts wanting one just like it. We spent time that day sharing  memories of the "good ole days" of cartoons. Love you my brother, be with you soon!

Only known Alex since second half of 2017 but he made an great impression.  Probably only saw Alex twice a month but that was enough to think he was one of the friendliest, caring guys I've meet.  This was confirmed at his service as others said the same about him.   

When I first heard of his passing, I couldn't stop from crying.  Never really done this before for people outside of my immediate family.   I heard two stories of him visiting people in their dreams, I totally believe this.   



Dear Robin,
Words really can’t express how saddened I was to hear of Alex's passing. Although I didn’t get to know him personally, I feel that I had known him by hearing and seeing the love through your and your children’s eyes. I want you to know that you and your family are very important to me, and if there is anything you guys need, even if it just to listen, I am here. I pray for constant strength and grace for all of you. You have my love and friendship always.

At Alex’s service, your Pastor read Alex’s favorite Bible verse from Psalm 23. I know much of the traditional Psalm by heart. The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. Your Pastor read another translation. The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. I sat there thunder stuck. I don’t ever recall hearing the Psalm read that way, & what a huge difference to my mind the difference in the words make. I have everything I need! I came home & looked at my own Bible & found that it reads the exact same way. So I have place Alex’s card in the Bible on the page with Psalm 23 so that I may find him and the Psalm and remember.

Brian and Alex worked together, on and off, for about 3 decades. Brian first met Alex & Robin in the mid-80s when you all worked in the same division. Alex and Brian were both UNIX geeks. You all also worked together in Germany for several years. Brian remembers going to lunch regularly with Alex & crew to the Burger King/sub shop, and often out the "back gate" to the fischhaus or the pizza place and then cruising thru the Power Zone. While the women of ETC enjoyed each other’s company at the Spouses Club, Brian and Alex often joined the "Alternate" Spouses Club, aka Guys Night to Drink Beer at a Gasthaus, where an occasional glass of vodka was also consumed. At work there was the Deutsche Ecke where Brian, Joe Wassil, and Alex would shout at each other in Americanized German. Later back in the States, Brian and Alex enjoyed their “team building” with Paul Zephir — AKA lunch & a movie. When Brian and Alex were at work in meetings together people often said that Alex made Brian seem to an optimist; Alex always said that was his Russian side. And how could we ever forget Alex’s terrible towel?

There was the time the 4 of us met in Baltimore at Cafe Einstein where it took you over an hour to find a place to park! Last we saw Alex was when the 4 of us had dinner with Joe, his Fiancé & Bob Smith at the Bavarian Brauhaus. A wonderful night that.

There is no person who could stand in the same room as Alex and not feel loved, noticed, or like they had an irreplaceable friend in this world. I am so blessed to have crossed paths with this wonderful man and his beautiful family. I am so thankful for every memory and every conversation. My heart is glad to know where he is and I anticipate joining him there one day. All of my love to the Sleptzoff family.

Alex was one of the most kind, loving souls I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He taught me so much about love, forgiveness and life. The memories I hold with him will always be near and dear to my heart. All those night of me coming up to grab water and him sitting in the chair in the corner on his computer, the trips to the grocery store, and the nights sitting around the kitchen talking. Oh and I could I forget the terrible dad jokes! I only wish I had reached out while there was still time.
All of you Sleptzoff’s are in my thoughts and hold a very special place in my heart. There isn’t a day that goes by that you guys don’t cross my mind. I love you all! 

Nick and I have been best of friends for what seems like forever. We have been through a lot together in life but the loss of a brother is certainly one of the hardest things there is. Having been there myself, I can understand how Hard it is to lose a brother, a father and an uncle. There are simply no words that can help ease the pain or the empty feeling in your heart. All I can say is, my thoughts, my prayers and my heartfelt desire to help in any way I can goes out to the entire family. Even though I did not know Sasha as well as Nick and Bill, I did have the pleasure of playing a little poker with him and sharing in his stories at family picnics. I admired and respected Sasha and I will forever remover the brief time we had together.

It was hard saying goodbye to you today. Always meant to stop by your office and say hello but something always seem to come up. Enjoyed exchanging items with you on FB. I remember meeting you and Robin when Beth and I got to Japan in 2002. Robin was so helpful checking in and meeting you introduced me to a friendly face in an org that was a bit different than I was used to. It was my first non Navy centric organization and it took a bit of adapting. You and family were always active at org picnics and parties, full of joy and life. A whipped cream pie comes to mind. Later when Beth came on staff Robin was again so great in bringing Beth onboard. Japan was one of best tours and it was people like you that helped make it so. We will see you again. Put in a good word for us. God bless. ⚓️

Throughout life you meet people who leave no impact, and then some a little bit of impact, and then you meet people just like Alex. To me Alex was one of my favorite people to see at church on Sunday mornings because we had a very identical sense of sarcasm -- which was a special kind of bond. We would pick at each other all in good fun. No matter how stressful any situation was, there was a peace that he brought about him that when around him I just knew it was going to be okay just by his calmness. One of the things that is my favorite thing about Alex is that for me, he just loved -- without condition, without expectation; just because of who he was, and how he allowed Jesus to work through him. I am so thankful for the opportunity over the years to have gotten to know Alex, and I firmly believe that Alex's legacy resides in each of his children who he loved dearly, and I can not wait to see the lasting impact they make because of who their daddy was. 

Alex was truly one in a million! He was a genuinely kind person! He would always ask about what was going on in my life and would really listen and be interested. Such a sweet guy! It was a privilege to know him and watch him grow in his relationship with God! He would just show up down in the kitchen at church just to see if we needed any help! Wow Alex! I will miss your smile and your hugs on Sundays! His love for Robin and his kids was an example to all who knew him. He will be missed so much! He was family! I look forward to the day when we will see him again! Hope we have a mansion in the same neighborhood! John14:1-6!❤ 

I met Alex when we were both working in Europe but at different locations.  Prior to meeting face to face, we had meetings via telephone and occasional video chat to discuss work.  Then finally one day he visited my work location and I will never forget his words to me that day.  When we shook hands, he looked at me with a serious, sincere look on his face and said, “You’re good man.  You have a good heart.  I just want you to know that”.  I have met many people in my life and rarely remember the first words they speak to me, but those words are etched into my memory and I will never forget his words to me.   What I learned that day is that a person never knows how a few kind words can have an everlasting impact.

I remember the last time I saw him at work.  We bumped into each other in the hallway and at the time he had tubes in his nose, but he had a smile on his face.  That was Alex with a smile on his face. I have learned that to have a smile on your face is a choice and I need to make a choice every day and choose to be like Alex and smile.


It was a truly privelege to know Alex, who always had a pleasant smile, a kind word, a listening ear, and often a slightly corny joke. 
I got to know Alex and Robin a few years ago, as prt of our Lifegroup, which they hosted at their home. We spent many enjoyable evenings together, discussing Gods word, and sharing our lives with one another. I grew to love them both very much.
Alex, you were an exemplary husband and father, a role model Christian,  and an all around great guy. You will be sorely missed.

I only knew Alex for a very short time, having met him only this past January through his volunteer work with our robotics team (FRC 2199).  As one of the software/programming mentors for the team, I spent time with Alex showing him how the students program the robot for the competition.  Alex was always willing to help out with the team in any way he could.  He spent a lot of time learning the different areas and disciplines where the students applied themselves to the task and he was eager to share his knowledge and talents to help them succeed.  I have no doubt that Alex would have been an important asset to the team, and I know that he made a difference in the students' lives even in the short amount of time where he was able to volunteer with us.  He will be missed by us all.  I express my deepest sympathies and condolences for your family's great loss.

Alex was always available for a chat at church picnics, on Sundays, and where ever you might run into him. He even got my anti-social husband talking. A testament to his wonderful nature. He had the best sense of humor and always made me smile/laugh. You are all in our prayers <3. 

Alex and Robin welcomed me into their beautiful home a few years ago. 

 Alex loved his family and enjoyed sharing his cooking ideas and recipes with me.  He made the best carrots on this side of Heaven.  Great sense of humor, gentle, caring and LOVED snow!  Coming from the Midwest I thought it was the strangest thing to enjoy winter Lol.  Alex was truly the same kind hearted man, Dad and husband in his home. He was always encouraging when I needed it.

I am grateful to God for our paths crossing! His spirit and legacy continues and he will be missed tremendously. Rest in paradise good and faithful servant. 

My prayers are with Alex’s family.  I know that you all know that he is celebrating in heaven.

Alex became a good friend over the past few years at work.  We had many conversations about family, faith and work challenges.  His spirit was so gentle and  his genuine caring was always apparent.  Even in the midst of his health issues he always asked about mine, and my mothers.  I’ll miss my friend!

Thanks for sharing all of the fabulous pictures on this page.  His smile was always contagious.  The world has lost of little bit of sunshine.  Til we meet again, Alex!

I was privileged to attend Cambridge Springs High School and graduate with Alex. He was always one of the good guys--upbeat, encouraging, hard working, loved to laugh, and was a great friend. We connected on Facebook after many years out of high school and he was still the same. Many times when I'd had  a rough day, he'd pop up in my messages and be an encouragement--even when he wasn't feeling good.  He loved his wife dearly and was proud of his kids and their accomplishments. It always showed in his posts about them. He had  a zest for life. I was so excited when he chose Jesus and started asking about good Bible studies to listen to in the car on his travels to and from work.  We discussed many things about health, new research, Francis Chan, how to be genuine Christians... I'm going to miss those chats. Love and hugs to you all, especially Robin, Natasha, Katryna, and Jimmy. Looking forward to that day when we all see our loved ones again and get to worship together at Jesus' throne. I pray the peace that passes all understanding keeps your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus and you feel Him holding you close to His heart. 

Robin and Alex are two peas from the same pod and were destined to be together from the start. 

Though I did not get to know Alex well, he quickly became a part of our robotics team family after Jimmy joined the team.  Alex pitched in wherever and whenever he could, with a smile and an obvious desire to improve the lives of those around him.  He spent one entire day taking hundreds of great photos, which he shared freely, of our Open House.  This has already made a great difference for the team, and I never had the chance to properly thank Alex for that effort.

We had hoped Jimmy would participate again next year (we miss you, Jimmy!), and Alex as well.  We still hope to see Jimmy soon, and meanwhile on behalf of all of the Robo-Lions (FIRST Robotics Competition Team 2199) members and families, accept our condolences and best wishes for you at this difficult time.  Anyone who could make the impact Alex did in a few months must be sorely missed.

I had met and known Alex only for a brief period of time.   But, in that time period I discovered how caring, talented, loving and just an all around good guy he was.  Alex was also a great chef!!  

 Alex loved his wife and children dearly.  He will be greatly missed by all. 

 Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing.
