The intricate dance of living a good day everyday with dementia ended on Sunday, February 26, 2023 for our mother Carolyn F. Uber, at the age of 85. She died encircled by the love of family and friends from near and far.
Carolyn deeply loved her children and their spouses- her daughter Linda, her husband Mike Dombrowski, her dearly beloved son the late Dr. John Uber and his wife Cynthia Uber. She was an adoring grandmother to Bryan Dombrowski (Sarah Mock), Zoe Uber, Eric Dombrowski (Megan Wile), and Cheryl Dombrowski. Carolyn was a loving sister of Everett Craig Felber (Corky). She was preceded in death by her beloved partner Michael Brody, Jr. She cherished deeply his children and their families- the Rev. Nancy K. Brody (Steve Blades, Simon Uhlig, and Bess Uhlig) and Dr. Michael C. Brody (Sue, Jordon and Benjamin). She leaves behind many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her loving parents Dorothea (Burnham) and Everett Felber. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Paul Uber.
Carolyn was born in 1938 in Hartford, CT and raised in Chevy Chase, MD. She graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and attended American University. After marrying Paul Uber in 1957, she was employed for several years with C & P Telephone before leaving to raise their two children Linda and John.
Carolyn returned to C&P (Bell Atlantic/Verizon) in 1980 to build a two-decade career; rising from general typist to the Directory Services Manager, responsible for the vast task of producing the area’s Yellow and White Pages, which contained over 11 million listings, and managing the directories’ technology planning. Carolyn earned the respect and gained the friendship and admiration of many, especially of those she supervised.
Carolyn discovered a lasting love with Mike Brody, Jr. after meeting at a dance mixer. Together for 35 years, they enjoyed life laughing, dancing, traveling to the National Parks, cheering for the Nationals and the Washington Football teams, enjoying crabs that he always picked for her, and most importantly, delighting in family and friends.
During her life, Carolyn was an accomplished dancer, bridge player, doubles tennis player, knitter, and seamstress. She lovingly knitted Christmas stockings and sewed Halloween costumes and clothes for her children and grandchildren. She reveled in each of their accomplishments at school and college, work, and in sports, music, and the arts. She attended the grandchildren’s concerts, award presentations, and cheered at their sporting events. She loved snowbirding at the Florida beaches, exploring Hawaii, and traveling the United States, Caribbean, Mexico, Germany, Austria, and Italy with her loved ones.
Family and friends are invited to gather for Carolyn’s Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 4:30 pm at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, located at 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075 (exit 6 South off Route 100). Funeral Services will be live-streamed via Facebook under Gary L.
