

Diana Lee Cook (née Derflinger), age 80, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in Bel Air, Maryland. Born on August 14, 1945, in Winchester, Virginia, Diana lived a life marked by deep devotion to her family and a steadfast spirit that touched all who knew her.
Diana was the beloved wife of Hansford Cook. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and joy throughout the years. Her love for her three boys, Kirk Schmidt, Keith Schmidt, Craig Schmidt, step daughter Kimberly Cook and bonus daughter Sarah Strasberger—was unwavering. She spoke of them often with immense pride and joy, considering them her greatest treasures.
She welcomed into her heart her daughters-in-law: Cindy Schmidt, Lee Ann Schmidt, and Cheryl Schmidt. Diana’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Keith Schmidt Jr., his wife Katie, Sarah Jacobs, Rebecca Schmidt, Faith Law, her husband Colin, Evan Schmidt, Lydia Schmidt, Kara Schmidt, and Laura Schmidt; as well as her great-granddaughters Olivia Schmidt and Emma O'Brien. She also held a special place in her heart for Grant Eddinger and Sara O'Brien, whom she lovingly embraced as bonus grandchildren.
Diana was the daughter of Arthur and Julia Derflinger. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her sisters Joyce MacMillan and Mary Jane Derflinger. She is survived by her brother Ronald Derflinger and his wife Arlene; her sister Sherry Lynch and brother-in-law Pat Lynch; nieces Heather Lucas, Carrie Jo Dryden, Jessica Meissner; nephew Jon MacMillan; and was predeceased by her nephew Patrick Lynch.
Throughout her life, Diana nurtured strong bonds with those around her. Her warmth extended beyond immediate family to include many who were fortunate to know her kindness and generosity.
