Donald “Don” Michael Nemcik, age 67, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023. Born to William L. Nemcik and Lola J. Gordon on November 2, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York; Devoted Spouse of 44 years to Holly Nemcik; Loving Father of Marisa Nemcik (Matt Price) and Michael Nemcik (Bryn Baffer); Dear Brother of William L. Nemcik, Jr.
Family meant everything to Don – from coaching and cheering on Michael and Marisa in their respective sports, to always remembering to send a (lengthy, nearly illegible) birthday card to his loved ones, and happily accepting the opportunity to be Mother Ginger in Marisa’s childhood ballet class’ rendition of “The Nutcracker” – he did it all. His love for his family was astounding, especially for his wife, Holly, and his favorite child – rescue pup, Aronka. Don was such a kind, compassionate person, with his professional work as an attorney focusing on Estate Planing, Corporate Law and Real Estate, as well as pro bono cases. He took pride in helping people, always putting others before himself, and really listened to people’s stories. Don put an optimistic spin on every situation, always looking for that silver lining and sharing that joy with others. Don also spent time serving his community through the Greater Falls Run Lions Club and volunteering at local animal shelters.
Don enjoyed listening to a wide variety of favorites from Alan Jackson, The Doors, and Jackson Browne, watching classic movies, like his favorite, Casablanca, and going to the theater for plays and musicals, although he swore nothing could top Phantom of the Opera. Those who know Don know what a jokester he was – if he ever presented his Elvis Presley fake I.D. to you… you know exactly what we mean! He also never met a souvenir shop he didn’t like, and was infamous for collecting interesting trinkets from his travels to gift to his family and friends.
As a huge history buff, Don also spent much of his time as a civil war reenactor with the Garibaldi Guard and Brooklyn 14th. He loved living out history at reenactments at Gettysburg and Antietam and even brought his bugle along to play “Taps” at Remembrance Day, as well as at veteran memorials. Tied in with his love for sports, you’d often find Don boisterously playing “Charge!” on his bugle at Mets baseball games, or vigorously supporting the New York Jets, and the New Jersey Devils. Above all, Don looked forward most to the time he spent with family and friends on vacations, especially to Lake George, Disney, and taking cruises.
A visitation for Donald will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075. A funeral service will occur Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075. Burial to follow.
