I remember when Aunt Dorothy found out she was pregnant. The doctors had told her that she couldn’t get pregnant. She was over the moon! she loved Earl Jr from the moment he was a zygote ❤️ Throughout his growing up her friends at work would give her a hard time because she would get time off and go immediately to pick him up and spend time with him and they would say why don’t you spend time for yourself? Being Earl’s Mom, Liz’s MIL, and Thalia’s Grandmother, were the Enormous joys of her life. She was so proud of each of them and of their beautiful family. She was a brilliant example of Love ❤️ 

I only had the pleasure of meeting Dottie a few times, and what I remember mostly is laughter. And the time she let me borrow her car! She raised Earl, who is one of the best people I have had the privilege of knowing. I can think of no higher compliment.

Earl,

My deepest condolences to you and your family during this time.  I will never forget her kindness and care your mother showed me through the years, even visiting me when we first moved down to Texas.  Your mother was an amazing woman and she will be missed.  

Dottie was always kind, generous, and humble - qualities I see in her son, Earl. She went out of her way to take care of others, making big and small gestures that she would dismiss when I tried to thank her. When she visited Earl in MD, I loaned her my car which was sitting unused while I was in grad school. She insisted on paying me despite my assurance that it was unnecessary. Years later, Earl and I took Thalia and Daniel to visit her. She rented a place for me and Daniel, making sure we would be comfortable during our stay. In my mind, she had gone above and beyond. In hers, it was a simple act. We had so much fun during that trip - spending the day at the beach and meeting her friends. She was beaming as she proudly introduced Earl and Thalia. She also happily told everyone that I had been friends with Earl since high school. Whenever I saw her, Dottie always took time to ask about my life and family. Her thoughtfulness was much appreciated and will be missed. 

Aunt Darth was a wonderful woman. I've got nothing but good memories of her. She couldn't hurt someone if her life depended on it. She had an overabundance of patience no matter who you were. 
She was naturally funny and I know plenty of times when she was laughing or at least chuckling. She loved hearing about my work and could listen to me tell my stories all day. She watched over my cat and held onto my stuff when I ventured across the country recently.  To say that it's sad that she's passed is an understatement and I'm honestly worried we'll be lost without her. But as long as I remember you, I can hold my ground and keep my head strong, Aunt Darth. You helped me understand who I need to be, who I need to be strong against and when to be kind. I'm happy with the example you set and the wonderful memories you left behind.

Earl, 
I am soo sorry to hear about your mom. I was able to meet her once, while making her home more energy efficient and though we spent maybe about an hour in her home, the only thing I remember was talking to her the whole time and how sweet she was. My deepest condolences to you and your family during this time.

For the most part. Aunt Darth and I were somewhat inseparable. One of my first memories of her is: my staying at the house on Rexmere with “Aunt Daugh”, (I was little and couldn’t say Dorothy and hadn’t caught on to Uncle Bill’s “Darth” nickname yet) Mommom and Uncle Paul. When I stayed over I would sleep in the twin bed next to Aunt Dorothy‘s twin bed, in her room.  I followed her everywhere for our every waking moment unless she had to go to work and then as soon as she walked in the front door I started following her again.  So of course, I was following her to the bathroom. Uncle Paul said jokingly what are you her shadow, why can’t you give her privacy and let her go to the bathroom by herself. I must’ve looked crestfallen and Aunt Darth  put an arm around me and said leave her alone she’s not hurting anybody come on honey we can go upstairs together. That’s when I learned to wait outside the bathroom so Aunt Darth could have some privacy. Through the years Aunt Darth got married, I cried I thought I’d lose her. Instead I gained an Uncle. And then they had a baby! The most beautiful baby boy, he was a Christmas present born on Christmas Eve! He was the first baby I ever took care of, whenever  I was allowed to spend the night at Aunt Darth ❤️ and Uncle Earl’s! Then I got married and had two Beautiful children and Aunt Darth came over as often as possible! and  held them, and fed them, and read to them, put them to bed... Giving them similar memories of her unconditional love, fun, protection and safety, to cherish. 
Without having any plan to do such a thing a year after Aunt Darth ❤️ moved back to Baltimore from Texas I sold my house in Bel Air and moved in with her. These last four years laughing, joking, telling each other stories, crying together, being happy, sad, angry, together has been a priceless gift I will cherish always. It’s also an inspiration for me to strive to be more like her everyday. Her shadow always ❤️xoxo

I am so sorry for your loss.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.  Although I didn't know your mother, if she raised you, she must have been awesome and strong!

Dottie was always “Darth” to me.  She was such an unselfish person.  When our Dad died,  Darth, then 19 years old, gave her entire salary from the phone company, to our Mom to help support the family.  When we were kids, Darth was my favorite target for teasing, nothing mean, just irritating.  I can hear her now, “Dad, Billy is teasing me.  I have fond memories of Darth that I will always cherish.

Dottie loved unconditionally. A gentle soul; she was so very proud of Earl. She cherished her granddaughter Thalia, who was “so smart, so talented”. Thalia’s visits were the highlight of her day. Dottie was never demanding, never selfish or judgmental. It was always fun to witness Dottie interact with Patricia, Bill and Paul reminiscing and laughing about their childhoods growing up on Milton Avenue and Rexmere Road. She will be missed but never forgotten...and always loved.

I loved catching up with Dottie and sadly I saw her more often when she lived in TX than when she move back to Baltimore to be loser to Earl, Liz and Thalia.  I will miss her smile laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with the Millett Family. 

Dorothy "Dottie" is my cousin we both grew up in Baltimore on either side of Patterson Park.  As kids I remember we used to put on plays and acted them out.  We lost touch in later years but got reacquainted when she moved back to Baltimore.  Oh how she loved her grandchildren.  I will miss her and so I send my love and blessings to her family and friends.  Someday we will meet again.

I remember visiting with Dottie at Catan tournaments and on Halloween.  She was always so kind, patient and welcoming.  I remember feeling concerned that we all descended upon her home, but she appeared genuinely happy to have us there! She was very happy to watch puppet shows, fashion shows, and anything else Thalia and Magnolia could come up with during the visits. She will be missed.
