Eleanor "Westy" Charity Gauvin

Eleanor “Westy” Charity Gauvin, aged 92, died peacefully on February 1, 2021. Eleanor was born October 2, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of William and Stella Westawski. She grew up in Plains, PA. She graduated from Memorial High School, Plains PA class of 1946.

She moved to Washington, DC to work at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. After 36 years of service, she retired from Metropolitan Life as a Branch Administrator. She then worked at WSSC for an additional 10 years before retiring.

She was a long-time resident of Hyattsville, MD and member of St. Mary’s Parish in Landover Hills, MD where she taught CCD to special needs children. After moving to Elkridge, MD in the early 1990’s she became a parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Elkridge, MD. She volunteered at St. Augustine Catholic School.

In her younger years, Eleanor loved to ski, horseback ride and play the guitar. She enjoyed country/western music and was a member of the Gene Autry Fan Club. In her later years after retirement, she travelled in the United States and abroad with her husband and family. She was the “Matriarch of the Family” raising her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In 2014, Eleanor lost her husband of 59 years, Gerald "Jeff" R. Gauvin (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/elkridge-md/gerald-jeff-gauvin-6213153). She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha and Florence, and brothers, Frank, Jackie, Walter, Anthony and Marty, and oldest son Owen Joseph Gauvin and daughter-in-law Teresa Lynn Gauvin. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Patsy; brother, Larry; son Michael R. Gauvin (Alisa); daughters, Anita D. Mills (William) and Michelle M. Jordan (John). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, MD 21075 ( exit 6 south off Rt. 100) on Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 8, 2021 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075 at 10:00 am. Committal Service and Interment to follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, MD. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Augustine Catholic Church.
