In 1969, Hanson immigrated to the United States and established his medical career in Florida, working with the Florida Rural Health Clinic until his retirement in 1997. His beloved wife, Joy, was with him through thick and thin and passed away in 1998. He married Maureen (Lai) Chen in Silver Spring, Maryland in 2000. He spent the remainder of his long life traveling the world and enjoying life with his caring wife, Maureen.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy Chen, and his daughters, Rose Yang and Lillian Johnson.
