John "Jack" Edward Hennen

On April 7, 2020, John “Jack” Edward Hennen passed away peacefully at the age of 97. John was a WWII member of the 14th Armored Division U.S. Army 154th Armored Signal Company. He served a total of 3 years and 4 months, including combat in France and Germany, being honorably discharged in 1946. John graduated from Schenley High School in 1940 and also attended and graduated from Biarritz University in France in 1945 with a degree in Accounting. He entered the University of Pittsburgh where he graduated in 1949 with a BS degree. Continuing his studies, he also received a MMA degree from the University of Cumberland in North Carolina in 2005. John received the French Legion of Honor from the President of France in 2013 for his combat service in France in WWII. His working careers included 2 years as an assistant business secretary for the Pittsburgh YMCA and 31 years as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Reynolds Manufacturing Company of Avonmore, PA. He retired in 1983 and became a federal IRS Enrolled Agent in 1985. He formed his own tax preparation company and prepared over 3,000 tax returns for 25 years when he retired for a second time at the age of 88. John enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, and football. One of his true passions is writing letters to his family and friends, which dates back to a time when he would send letters every day during WWII to his soon to be wife, Helen. John was the beloved husband for 70 years to the late Helen H. (nee Laheta) and the devoted father of Scott Hennen and his wife Tina; cherished grandfather of Justin and Jessica Hennen; dear brother of the late Kathryn Beard (the late James), the late William Hennen (the late LaVerne) and the late Thomas Hennen (the late Anne).

Services for John will be private but family and friends are invited to visit the website of Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. to leave a fond memory of John or an expression of sympathy.
