John was born on February 27, 1968, in Washington, DC, to Bonnie and Jim Zulick. The youngest son of a loving family, he grew up in North Laurel, and graduated from Atholton High School in Columbia, MD. Johnny enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing football, and listening to country music. He was a great supporter of his nieces and nephews, and loved to attend their various sporting and community events. A man who found the joy in nature, Johnny was always happy to visit with family and friends, especially at his grandparents’ house near the Shenandoah River in Avon Bend, West Virginia, and his mom’s beach house in Ocean Pines, Maryland. An avid reader and sports fan, Johnny was quick with little known facts or Redskins trivia. He liked to try new recipes and recently became quite a good cook. Artistic and handy with tools and woodworking, Johnny created many beautiful pieces of furniture and household items which he lovingly gave to family and friends. He also used these skills working in construction and vinyl railing businesses.
Despite struggling with hardships, Johnny was always ready with a hug and a helping hand. He was a very loving, kind and generous person, who always cared for his friends and family. He would be there to help with any project or assist in any way. His infectious smile and warm spirit brought joy to those he met. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Bonnie Lee (Eddy) Smith and stepfather John (Ellicott City, MD); father, James Earl Zulick, Jr. and stepmother, Connie (Hagerstown, MD); brother, James Zulick III and wife, Kim (Eldersburg, MD); sister, Kelly Carney and husband, Edward (Columbia, MD); stepsister, Jill Miller (Hagerstown, MD); stepsister, Dana Hudson and husband, Steve (Burlington, VT); stepbrother, Brian Smith(Fairfax, VA); stepbrother, Adam Smith and wife, Katie (Woodbridge, VA) ; nieces, Callie Zulick, Brittany Kaier, Bonnie Carney, Ginevre Smith, Willa Hudson and Riley Smith; nephews, Teddy Carney, Joshua Miller, Jacob Miller, Andrew Miller, Jack Zulick, William Smith and Grady Hagenbuch.
