She was the beloved daughter of Robert Ignatius Buckley, a World War II veteran and dynamite specialist for GenStar Inc., and Norma Betty Ward, a devoted homemaker who also worked part-time for the U.S. Postal Service.
Mary Jean is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Ann Biedrzycki, and son-in-law, Derrick Biedrzycki; her cherished granddaughter, Skyler Lynn Barksdale; her brother, Robert Ward Buckley, and his wife, Diane Buckley; as well as her dear cousins Theda Mayer, Celeste Mayer, and Sheila Geppi.
Mary grew up in Western Howard County, attending Howard High School. Upon graduation she married Peter Freeman and together they had daughter Kimberly. Later Mary would relocate to Southern California, but eventually she would settle back in Maryland, choosing Columbia for her lifetime home because of its planned landscaping, open spaces and diverse population. Mary served on her condo’s board in various positions over the course of 30 years.
Mary’s career was in the natural stone and landscaping industry where she worked as a masonry supply specialist.
Mary enjoyed spending quiet time at home watching independent films, as well as collecting antique furniture and jewelry, many of which she acquired in her beloved historic Ellicott City. She also enjoyed time with her childhood friend Jim Rogers, taking day trips and attending family lunches.
While Mary had many friends and family that she enjoyed, she most cherished the time she spent with her daughter Kim and granddaughter Skyler.
Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness.
