On Friday, November 28, 2025, Sharon Anne Ward, 71, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully surrounded by the family she cherished. Her warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born to the late Thomas Warren Leishear and Anna Jane (Redmond) Leishear, Sharon grew up in a close-knit family alongside her late brother, Gary Thomas Leishear, and her sisters, Melinda Leishear and her husband Barry Browning, and Donna Poleto and her husband Gene. From a young age, Sharon learned the value of hard work and service. She began her career as a school bus driver for her father, Thomas, and eventually took over the family school bus business in Howard County, which she led with pride, dedication, and deep care for the students and families she served. Her presence behind the wheel was a source of comfort and reliability for generations of children.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Paul Ward, her son Jeremy Ward and his wife Amy Shifflett, and their children Tori Shifflett, Rylee Shifflett and Grandchildren Vincent Corun and Tegan Corun; her daughter Kari Ward and her fiancé Wade Hackert. She also leaves behind her loyal dog, Pepper James, who rarely left her side. Sharon adored her many nieces and nephews, always celebrating their milestones and cheering them on—especially her nephew, Trevor Allen, whom she lovingly viewed as a second son.
Sharon had a deep love for the things that made life joyful—Elvis Presley, the Baltimore Orioles, and most of all, time spent with her family. Some of her happiest memories were made during family vacations in Ocean City, a tradition she treasured throughout her life. More recently, she found that same joy and comfort in Pigeon Forge, a place that quickly became another beloved family destination. These trips were snapshots of her happiest moments—togetherness, laughter, and simple joys shared with the people she loved most.
A woman full of life and personality, Sharon’s legacy is one of compassion, commitment, and quiet strength. She made people feel seen, valued, and cared for—whether through a warm conversation, a shared story, or her steady presence in their lives.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 12th at 10:00 AM at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, Maryland. A luncheon will follow on the premises. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring and celebrating Sharon’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Sharon’s memory.
