It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Brathwaite, 74, born in St. Michael, Barbados, on October 9th, 1950. Shirley immigrated to the United States and built a beautiful life, family and career. She earned an associate’s degrees in Accounting and spent over 20 years as a respected custodian at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA. She was known for her undeniable work ethic, charming smile and heart for people. She was peaceful, lovable, reliable and content with all that God had blessed her with. Shirley loved watching her soap operas, going shopping, traveling and cherishing time with her family. She also enjoyed movies, music and good food.
Daughter of the late Muriel Haynes and Oswick Grant. Mother of Sandra Haynes Sawyer,
grandmother of Simone and Jade Sawyer, mother-in-law of Blair Sawyer, sister of Shirlan, Mervyn and Cerline Haynes, sister-in-Law of Joan Cox Haynes and Joan Norville Haynes, aunt of Simone Haynes Powell, Gregg Alleyne, Leanne Haynes, Stephen, Maxine and Michael Mapp.
Shirley will be remembered for her determination, kindness, unwavering support and love for her family, and her love for God. Her kind spirit, beautiful smile and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew her!
