Dave was born and raised in Ellensburg. In his younger years, he was active in 4-H, Junior Rodeo Posse, Play Days, and Basketball. He graduated from EHS in 1970. His pride and joy was his black ’57 Chevy. Dave was a well-known timber faller. He logged in the Kittitas Valley, Mount St. Helens, Kitsap County, Ferry County and Southeast Alaska. Dave was from a “logging family,” as his brother (Scott) and father (Les) were both active in the logging industry, from cutting, to hauling and helicopter logging.
Later on, Dave owned a large ranch where he enjoyed enterprising all of his dreams growing hay, building an arena for his kids and raising livestock. When Dave returned to Ellensburg, his “green thumb” lived on through many small farm projects. Dave’s latest years were spent working in his leather shop, making saddles, tack and purses. Dave loved horses, Neccos, No Bake cookies and spending time with his only granddaughter, Keely.
During all of Dave’s health struggles, he made countless friends anywhere he went, including Internal Medicine (Dr. Jackson & Andy Shock), KVCH Staff, Bi-Mart Pharmacy, UW Medicine and Virginia Mason.
Dave was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Storlie and his father, Les Storlie. Dave is survived by his mother, Dorothea; his 3 daughters: Heidi (Johnny) Martinez (mother Rene Kingsboro), Cara (Kyle) Thayer and Dana (Greg) Ogan (their mother Cathy Staloch); his brother Scott (Allie) Storlie , niece Hanna (Kyle) Doolin, and nephew Shea. The apple of Dave’s eye was his granddaughter Keely Thayer.
Thank you to Ken Cadwallader, Frank Allemand and Bill Sorenson for your life-long friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted on behalf of David Storlie to purchase a new spirometer for Internal Medicine. Donations can be made to: The Foundation at KVH, 603. S. Chestnut St., Ellensburg, WA 98926 or via their web site www.kvhealthcare.org. Donations will fund a special equipment purchase in Dave’s honor for KVH Internal Medicine.
