Helen Mae Dunbar, born January 28, 1918, in Ellensburg,WA, daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Robbins) Pott, passed away on February 18th. Helen was a native of the valley, growing up on the ranch of her parents in the Woldale district.
She attended Lourdes Academy, Ellensburg High School, and after one year at the University of Washington, enrolled in the Byrd School of Cosmetology in Yakima. After graduation she worked for many years as a beautician for the Band Box in Ellensburg.
Helen was the great granddaughter of John Robbins who built the Robbins Log Cabin moved from Reecer Creek "Springdale Ranch" to the Pioneer Village at the Kittitas Fairgrounds where it remains today. She felt blessed to see her last Ellensburg Rodeo in 2013, and was also able to see the Cabin one last time for a picture or two.
Helen was raised by loving and compassionate parents and often expressed that she never experienced a boring day in her life! Some of her happiest times were riding horseback with her dad and participating in the spring cattle drives with him! Helen was the light in her mother Myrtle's eyes and they spent untold hours together sharing time and conversation. She loved to share her family stories with others, which always were told with enthusiasm, warmth and love!
Helen was independent and strong. She became a friend and confidante to many during her lifetime. She had a great sense of humor and a will to live that helped her survive any "hard times"! Helen was a lifelong member at St Andrew's Parish. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother and infant sister.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Andrews Catholic Church on Monday, February 24, at 11:00am with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be designated for St. Andrews where Helen was a lifelong member. Arrangements are under the direciton of Steward & Williams Tribute Center in Ellensburg, Washington.
