

Bill was born in Prosser, WA on June 7, 1923, to John M. Martin and Anna K. (Steffen) Martin. He grew up and attended schools in Prosser, graduating from Prosser High School in 1941. Bill entered the Army in 1943 during WWII and served in the infantry in New Guinea and the Philippines. He later was a part of the occupation force landing in Japan in 1945. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, Bill settled in Wenatchee and worked as an autobody repairman.
He married Mary M. Humphrey in 1947, and they had 4 children: twin sons - Ernest and Edward, and two daughters - Linda and Mary. Bill and his family moved to Okanogan, WA in 1955, where he worked for the WA State Department of Agriculture, and then moved to Ellensburg in 1963. He retired in 1988. Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge serving 2 years as Governor of the Moose.
Survivors include his children, Ed Lumsden from Thornton, CO; Linda Dieringer from Kingman, AZ; and Mary Allred from Fort Worth, TX; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; son, Ernest; and a brother, John Henry Lumsden.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Steward & Williams Tribute Center. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Ellensburg. A reception will follow at the Moose Lodge in Ellensburg. Steward & Williams Tribute Center in Ellensburg is in care of arrangements.
