Dennis W. Slone

Dennis W. Slone, 54, of Lakeland, Florida and a native of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away September 15, 2013 at Orlando Regional Hospital. Following graduation from Des Moines Technical High School in 1977 he worked in the Des Moines area before moving to Texas. In Arlington, Texas, he met and married Claudia Hypa-Malone. They returned to Des Moines in 1985 and in 1998, moved to Key West, Florida where he was employed by Key Iron Works. In 2003, they moved to Lakeland, Florida , working as a Superintendent for Clark Hunt Construction of Clearwater. In March of this year he joined Cronin Construction Company in Orlando as their General Superintendent.

Dennis loved baseball and enjoyed coaching little league when his sons were young. He loved music and was a self-taught guitar player. Dennis also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his young grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his sons Joshua (Jennifer) Malone of Italy & Dean Slone of Key West; parents Duane & Carolyn Slone of Parrish, FL; sisters Pam (Tom) Cannon of Spring Hill, FL, Sandra Brehmer of Goose Creek, SC; five grandchildren LilyAnn & Jeremy Malone of Italy; Dallas, Dylan and Cadence Slone of Key West; nephew Phillip Cannon of Tampa, FL; niece Emilie Cannon of Spring Hill, FL. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Claudia and sister Kim Slone.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 Friday September 20th at Groover Funeral Home, Ellenton, FL. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the memorial. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hubbard House, located next to Orlando Regional Hospital, which helps families during loved ones hospital stays.
