

Edith ‘Bunny’ Shirley left this earth on May 26, 2018 to reunite with her beloved husband James E Shirley who died 22 years ago. She was born to the late Adjutor and Alma Pare’ in Augusta, Maine on April 5, 1931. She was nicknamed Bunny because she was born on Easter Day. Bunny was raised in Hallowell, Maine where she went to school and worked at the Hallowell Shoe Company. Jim and Bunny married in Hartford, Connecticut on May 15, 1954. They relocated to Seminole, Florida in the 1970’s where they owned the G&S Glass Company; later retiring to Asheville, North Carolina. She retired from Eckerd Drugs after working in the Pharmacy Department for many years. Bunny moved to Ellenton for her remaining years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her very special cat, Candi.
Bunny is survived by her two sisters, Beverly (and late husband Leon) Richard of Oakland, Maine and Patricia (Walter) Chase of Palm Coast, Florida; four children, Cyndi Shirley of St. Petersburg, James (Dawn) Shirley of Wylie, Texas, Susan Shirley of Ellenton, and Karen (Andre’) Lark of Chino, California; nine grandchildren, Lori (Patrick) Russell, Tom McGrattan, Marci Bassett (Barry) Books, Lisa (Sam) McGrattan, Tanya (Vincent) Wrtaza, Josh (Lyzette-Fiancé) Specchio, Mark (Brandi-Fiancé) Shirley, Catherine Shirley, and Kristen Shirley; and nine great-grandchildren, Andrew, Carly, Colin, Dominic, Hajar, Kristen, Michael, Nicholas, and Ryan. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
There will be a celebration of Bunny’s Life on Thursday June 7, 10:00 am at the Groover Funeral Home, 1400 36th Ave East in Ellenton, FL. Following the ceremony, she will be buried next to her husband Jim at the Bay Pines National Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
