Francis Patrick Murphy

Born in 1926 in Vano, Florida to Arthur J. and Katherine Murphy, Francis lived in Rahway and Clark, New Jersey, until he moved to River Wilderness in 1989. Francis attended Rahway High School and Montclair University, both in New Jersey. Francis served in the Army Air Force as a radio code interpreter, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946.

In June of 1951, Francis married Mary Grace Selcan of Rahway, New Jersey. They had five children: Jeanne and Kathleen of New Jersey, and John Francis of Fairport, New York. Francis is predeceased by his wife Mary Grace, and two infant sons, Joseph and John.

An avid golfer, Francis loved his life, his friends and the community at River Wilderness and was proud to serve as President of the Board of Directors of River Wilderness Golf and Country Club. Francis leaves behind his three children, daughter-in-law Linda (Warner) Murphy, granddaughter, Kathryn Grace of New York City, sister-in-laws AnneMarie Murphy and Gloria Selcan Franklin of New Jersey and Joan and William Schneider of Arizona, plus many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Groover Funeral Home in Ellenton on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 4-6 PM, and a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Parrish on Monday, July 29, at 11:00 AM.
