In Memory of George Strieb,

It was our pleasure to have met George many years ago, as the Deacon of OLPH Church, with beloved Pastor, Fr. John DeZinno. Fr. DeZinno said that George was his first convert to the Catholic Faith. It was a lucky thing for us, because we inherited a real Gem. George's sermons interpreted the Bible messages into words that spoke volumes, were practical and hinged to simple life experiences. It was George's wrap around hugs of joy when he greeted the church family after mass, that were so typical of George. He spoke it not only in what he said but also in his actions. George was a pure soul, a friend, a man without pretense. You could ask him any question and get a straight forward answer and always a laugh for good measure. You couldn't help but love George. Our deepest condolences & prayers of comfort go out to his wonderful wife Joan and daughters, Dawn Marie and Colleen. To take a quote from St. Francis of Assisi, "Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary use words." That was George! May he be enjoying the house that God has prepared for him.
Fondly,
The Witkoski Family

I had the great pleasure of working with George at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford, CT for many years. I was the DRE there and George was the deacon and he was wonderful! Very spiritual, very kind, funny and great when working with the kids in our program. George was always there to lean on during sad times and to laugh with during happy times. Our parish was truly a family and George was a very much loved part of that family. I am heartbroken to hear that he has passed away, I hope there will be a service in CT sometime soon where we can celebrate his life.
I know George was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by so many people he ministered to. My prayers to Joan and the family as you mourn his passing.

Couldn't believe it when I read the bulletin in the Our Lady of Grace Church in Washington Depot this past Sunday. I really liked George a lot. I would kid him before and after Mass and tell him we were both born in 1943 and that made us special. I will really miss him, as a person, as a Deacon, and especially for his homilies. I so looked forward to seeing him read the Gospel and do the homily as he was inspiring in a natural, human type of way. May he rest in peace. And, yes, I WILL MISS HIM. Did not want to see him retire, but I guess he had to.

Dear Joan, Colleen, Dawn, and family -

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Uncle George was a great man, and I've often thought of him, and all of you through the years. I will always remember him with much love, and also his sense of humor, and the many years he was a deacon at St. Francis -everyone loved him. Thinking of all of you...may he rest in peace... Love, Tina
