Joseph was born in Ujker and grew up in Sopron, Hungary. He spent time in Austria to escape communism where he worked as a firefighter. He later moved to New York where he married Katharina Klenantz. They met while attending night school to learn English on their way to becoming American citizens. He worked as a furniture refinisher in New York and later in Florida. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy McGehee and husband Bruce; son Peter Egyed, wife Marna and their children Katelyn and Laney; sister Anna Karner in Hungary, sister-in-law Rose Theiss; many nieces and nephews; his parakeet Hansie and cat Lucinda. Joseph was kind and friendly to all.
The viewing will be held from 6-8pm on August 19th at Groover Funeral Home in Ellenton. Services will be on Friday August 20th at 11am at Cabrini Catholic Church, followed by a gathering at the family home.
