

Leo Myron Drozdowsky was born March 23, 1928 to Mary and Michael Drozdowsky in Detroit, Michigan. Leo was eldest of five siblings growing up in Manitoba, Canada, then moving to Waterford, Ontario. His siblings included Larry Drozdowsky (deceased), Lois (Charles) Barsony, Evan (Virginia) Drozdowsky and Milton (Peitje) Drozdowsky. After his military service, Leo moved to Davison, MI, employed at GM Fisher Body Plant, retiring in 1992.
Leo married Sonia Kowtaluk in June 1954.They had two children, Leo Terrance (deceased) and Cynthia Gail Drozdowsky. Leo and Sonia (now deceased) eventually divorced. Years later Leo was introduced by mutual friends to Hilma Fischer, of Lapeer, Michigan, an RN with four grown children of her own. After years of active outdoor adventures and shared travel, Leo and Hilma married on July 14,1992 and resided in Lapeer while making a second home in Ellenton in 1999 and becoming year-round neighbors at Colony Cove in 2006. His wife Hilma passed in December 2013.
Leo’s love for his daughter Cindy and husband Jim Hockin of Swartz Creek, MI., will live on in a legacy of support for their entire family of two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
“Papa” Leo was the name his extended Fischer-family bestowed on him the rest of his life. Papa Leo’s love, support and nurturing of Hilma and her entire family will provide years of fond memories to cherish among Deb (Lew) Knecht, of Grand Rapids, MI., Greg Fischer and sister Dawn Young, of Greensboro NC, and Kimberly (John) Dixon of Marietta GA. Today there are 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren to carry on Papa Leo’s example of a life well-lived.
