Maggie M. Davis

Maggie was born in Warwick, Georgia on August 26, 1923. Maggie moved to Manatee County from Lakeland, Florida in 1947. She was predeceased by her first husband, Carter Hughes, and second husband, John Davis, daughter Carolyn Hughes Kimpton, grandson Chris Kimpton and granddaughter Tarah Lauletolo. Maggie is survived by sister Edna Taylor, daughter Barbara Hughes Killian, granddaughter Yanah Turlington, great-granddaughter Rachael Bishop, grandson Mitchell Turlington, great-granddaughter Brittany Turlington, grandson Jason (Deanie) Turlington, granddaughter Sarah Turlington, great-granddaughter CeCe Turlington, grandson Trevor (Cherie) Turlington, great-grandson Austin Turlington, great-grandson A. J. Turlington, great-granddaughter Alexis Turlington, and great-great-grandchildren Cameron, Cole, Kendall and Nicco Sudlow. She is also survived by daughter Doris Hughes Phillips, grandson Bobby Phillips, great-granddaughter Amanda Phillips, great-great-grandson Aydin Phillips, granddaughter Linda Phillips and partner Andrea Hammond, granddaughter Nancy Phillips (Michael) Knapek, great-grandson Stephen Knapek, friend Herman Phillips, granddaughter Lauren Kingston Pittman, great-grandson Troy Pittman, and great-great-grandchildren Meranda, Eric, Ada and Faith, daughter Catherine Davis Poynter, grand-daughter Tiffany Poynter (Justin) Garrett, and friend Michael Poynter.

Maggie retired as a cafeteria worker from Blackburn Elementary School in 1989. Mom was a wonderful mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was generous, loving, and always giving of herself to her family. We will never forget all those Sunday dinners at Mom’s house—sometimes 30 or 40 of us, and she never blinked an eye. For some reason the food never ran out. Everyone was welcome. She was only 5' 2", but to us she was so much bigger. She taught us by example, work ethics, morals and virtues. We love you, Mom! We'll miss you so much forever, until we meet you again in Heaven.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 7th from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Avenue, East (Ellenton-Gillette Road) in Ellenton, Florida. Services will follow immediately.
