

Margaret Hilda Hooie (nee Smith), 88, of Bradenton, entered into the arms of her LORD and savior on February 25, 2023, after a long and difficult fight with Alzheimer’s. “Marge” was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1934 and married “Bud” in October of 1955. Together, they raised five children, moving to Bradenton in 1976. Marge graduated from Lincoln High School. She worked for the Manatee County School System for over 30 years primarily at Ballard Elementary as a teacher's aide and then in the front office. After retirement, Marge went to work for the James Jackman law firm as a legal secretary for 15 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hillard “Bud” Hooie, and her daughter, Beth Ann.
Marge is survived by her son and wife, Richard and Lee Hooie; daughter and husband, Bonnie (Hooie) and Ivan Shawvan; son and wife, David and Angie Hooie; and son and wife, Donald and Julie Hooie. Marge was also the proud grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of twelve.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Faith United Church of Christ, 4850 SR 64 East Bradenton, Florida, where Marge was a founding member, on Saturday, March 25th at 3:30pm.
Groover Funeral Home Ellenton, FL is entrusted with cremation arrangements. The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Tidewell Hospice, The Alzheimer’s Association, or Faith United Church of Christ in Bradenton in Marge’s name.
