

Phyllis “Jeanne” Jackson passed away on December 19, 2018. She was the designer of the Manatee Veterans Monument located on waterfront by Manatee Memorial Hospital and she was the secretary of Veterans Council for 3 years. Jeanne was awarded the Silver Patrick Henry Medallion for Patriotic Achievement by the Military Order of the World Wars in July 1987 by President Regan.
Jeanne was born in Reading, PA and moved to Palmetto from Ft Bragg, NC in 1972. She was an Army wife for over 20 years. She was employed by the Department of the Army as the Executive Secretary of the Incentive Awards Program in Alaska and Edgewood Arsenal MD. After retiring in Florida, she worked at George Burnett Agents for State Farm Ins in Palmetto for 6 years. Jeanne was a Baptist.
She was a Life Member and President 3 times of the VFW Post Auxiliary, Palmetto and a Life Member of DAV#18 Auxiliary, Bradenton; and a Member of the Eastern Star #83, Bel Air, MD for over 37 years, member of the American Legion Auxiliary #24, Bradenton; Eagles Auxiliary #3171, Bradenton; and Moose #1072, Bradenton.
She is survived by son, Alan Miller of Bradenton, Fl and daughter, Joy Woodward and husband Ed from Parrish, FL; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren all in Denver, CO. Celebration of her Life will be on Jan. 19, 2019 at 11am with a gathering following at 11:30am to 1pm at Groover Funeral Home, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL.
