

HAAG, Col. (Retired) Richard G., passed away on December 6, 2014. Richard was born on May 29, 1933, and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Notre Dame prior to enlisting in the Air Force, ultimately receiving his Bachelor of General Education from the Municipal University of Omaha in 1963, and his Master of Business Administration from George Washington University in 1966. Richard served his country for 28 years as a member of the United States Air Force. During his tenure with the Air Force, he served in the Vietnam War and earned several awards, including The Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, National Defense Service Medal and Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters. His favorite hobby was playing golf, which he did as often as he could. He also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. When stationed in areas that were conducive to hunting, he could be found out in a field on any given weekend. In his spare time after retiring, he learned the art of stained glass. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margaret "Peg" Haag, and his brother, David. He is survived by his four children, Elizabeth, Katharine, Richard and Patricia, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his sister, Karen, and his sister-in-law, Joan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Groover's Funeral Home, 1400 - 36th Avenue East, Ellenton, Florida, at 9:00 a.m., with services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
