My deepest condolences to his family.  I was just made aware of Mark's passing .  I know we haven't been in touch in many years but when you're childhood friends, it's like you never skipped a beat and all the memories surface so quickly.  Michael and Marie, I'm truly sorry for your loss...childhood friends are like family and I feel like part of my heart broke off when Mark Spero told me what had happened. I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Mark was taken too soon. Mark was an exceptional person. He was kind, inclusive and hilarious. We were colleagues for several years and my memories of our time working together are of fun, entrepreneurship and optimism. Mark always talked about his family, particularly his children, with love and reverence. RIP Mark. Thoughts and prayers with Mark’s family.

Wow.  I am saddened and in disbelief.  I just spoke with Mark...or as I referred to him since, prior to, our Deutsche Bank days, Mark e Mark.  If i were to design my ideal teammate and colleague, it would be Mark.  He and I worked on many things together, closed a few deals, lost a few deals and that is work life. Above all, we had fun doing it.  Mark and I also shared a room at industry conferences such as the Skybridge (SALT) conference in Vegas.  To get the true character of a person, you have to know them outside of getting paid to be together.  Man, did we have fun; more fun than two people should have anywhere on Earth, let alone Vegas.  Mark was not only my colleague, but, he was a friend.  He would dial me randomly as he visited his mother in Long Island.  I learned parenting tips from Mark.  He had many for me.  I can go on but, sometimes, it's better left unsaid.  Mark was a fantastic human being.  Someone you wanted to be around.  I will cherish and reminisce all the memories we have created over the past 15 years plus.  My prayers and sincere condolences to the people he loved most - his family, his wife and kids.  And his mom in Long Island.   RIP Mark.  

Very saddened to hear of Mark's passing.  Mark was so kind and became a close friend when I made a difficult transition from NY to CA in 2008.  He always reached out to me and my family to see how we were doing and provided invaluable advice and comfort to make our transition comfortable.  Mark had a such a great sense of humor and always adjusted my outlook during challenging times.  He put others before himself and I know he loved his family dearly.  Just remembering some of the laughs we had is tonic for such a terrible loss.  Rest in peace my brother and my prayers and best wishes to Mark's family.

I was once waiting in a long line at the Dublin airport and struck up a conversation with the fellow standing next to me.  He asked where I worked and when I told him, he said “I know a great guy who works there, maybe you know him?”   I politely pointed out that the bank had over 100,000 employees but sure, what’s his name?  When he said Mark Catalano, I said, of course, it had to be him. I feel like I have so many stories from the days we worked together- from crazy technology implementations to client pitches and everything in between- but this stands out as one of the better examples of how Mark made such an impression on so many people.  May God grant comfort to his family and may we all learn from his example of kindness to all and a smile for everyone you meet.  Will never forget you, Mark.
