Aunt May had many qualities that drew me to her, especially her adventurous spirit & can-do attitude, a deep love of family, great sense of humor, and a non-judgmental & accepting nature.  I remember popping over to her home as a child when our families lived on Russell Street in Vermont, and hearing country music for the first time.  There were plenty of big family gatherings in those days where Canadian French, old stories, and boisterous laughter could be heard. I also remember her coming over for quieter chats around the kitchen table with my Mom.  In my early teens, I often babysat her children (yes, it’s true dear cousins, I have changed your diapers!).  After getting my driver’s license and a used VW bug, Aunt May was often the first I’d call for an impromptu “girls’ outing”, for which she was always ready and willing to do.  Lots of laughs & fun during those adventures with my “girlfriend, AKA my aunt”! 

Though she was many things that I wasn’t--traditional, skillful with crafts of all kind, an expert homemaker, a devoted wife & mother-–we still connected in a very special way. I appreciated her lack of judgment about my wanderlust & being away from family, and my not being particularly religious or traditional.  I always felt that Aunt May accepted me just as I was.  After moving to San Diego, she routinely included us in family gatherings and made sure we knew we had family there as we settled into our new life “out West.”  Somehow, when she’d ask me when Hans and I were going to marry, it was never in the critical tone I’d often hear from others.  When we finally did plan to marry but in a very simple ceremony years later, she and Uncle Eddie were there & she made sure I had  “something old,…. new,… borrowed,… blue.” I still have those good luck charms, including a very special laced-fringed wedding photo album that reminds me of her & warms my heart.

Aunt May left a loving legacy, and that's a gift to everyone she touched. She will be greatly missed.


My name is Patrick Quinlan.
I’m aunt May’s oldest nephew from her brother Bernie, in Hawaii.
Along with my brother Michael, I remember visiting with aunt May and the family when we came up for a family vacation.
During this time, my brother and I were martial arts students, and we conducted a few of our learned moves in her living room with cousin Mark. 
I remember smiles all around. 
Even though we lived in Hawaii, aunt May showed us love like we were part of her everyday life. She will always hold a special place in my heart.


My sister, May,  was a very kind and thoughtful person. She had a knack of making things into something special that you love to keep forever.  I still have one of her creations which is a bouquet of white flowers arranged inside an Easter bunny figurine.
During our younger days, living on the farm in Vermont, May used to love helping our Mom in the kitchen.  She helped baked pies and cookies for desserts. On occasions, when I would smell the aroma of the baked cookies, from outside the house, I would quickly run into the kitchen and asked Mom if I could have some. Mom would always say, "NO, not before supper. " May would wink at me just as she hand me some cookies.
You will always be with me May  as I remember things you did with me or for me when we were younger.
All my family in Hawaii will miss you.

Grandma May was such a special woman to our family.  Jason has shared many stories about all the fun things they did with her as kids while she babysat them and how special she was to him.  I remember when I first started dating Jason he always use to tell me I am just like his Grandma! And boy when I met her I soon learned we shared all the same interests. She loved decorating, rearranging her house,  loved holidays, throwing parties and making beautiful crafts. We always shared our projects and parties with one another and  had the best times! One thing that meant the most to me was the love she had for her great grand babies! Bruin and grandma had a very special connection.  He said he loved how grandma always was so happy to see him and always had a special suprise for him and Addison. She made them some special keepsakes they will always cherish. Addison loved her great grandma may and all the snacks they shared. She will be missed by us all but we are forever grateful for the impact she has left on all of us. She taught us family is always number one and that the slightest gesture could make someone's day brighter ♡  and I will continue to share all the passions we both loved with the kids! 

I remember the first time I met Aunt May.  We lived below her and her family in Winooski and Uncle Eddie started going out with her.  She was always so funny and made everyone smile.  When my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, I remember she came with her Girl Scout Leader uniform because she didn't wan to miss it.  For my wedding shower, she gave a party (I don't remember what kind, similar to Tupperware) and all the gifts she received for that party she gave to me as shower gifts.  To this day, I still have the Good Housekeeping Recipe book she gave me.  Every time I look at it, I think of her.  She was one of my favorite aunt.  We never went to CA without going to see her.
